Organizations Filed Purposes:
SERVING AS THE VOICE OF BUSINESS, THE BIG SKY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CHAMPIONS A HEALTHY ECONOMY AND WORKS COLLABORATIVELY WITH COMMUNITY STAKEHOLDERS AS A CONVENER AND A CATALYST TO IMPROVE THE OVERALL QUALITY OF LIFE IN THE REGION.
THE BIG SKY CHAMBER'S ELEVATE BIG SKY 2023 STRATEGIC PLAN OUTLINES FOUR PILLARS OF STRATEGIC FOCUS INCLUDING ADVOCATING FOR ITS 400+ MEMBER BUSINESSES AND THEIR THOUSANDS OF EMPLOYEES AND CREATING A POSITIVE BUSINESS CLIMATE. WITH THE IMPACT OF COVID-19, THIS WAS MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER AND FOCUS SHIFTED FROM MORE TRADITIONAL EDUCATION AND PROGRAM OFFERINGS TO OUTRIGHT FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR SURVIVAL. BIG SKY, BORN A DESTINATION SKI RESORT, IS A VISITOR-BASED ECONOMY WHICH WAS DECIMATED BY THE PANDEMIC, HAVING TO CLOSE DOWN WITH FIVE WEEKS REMAINING IN THE WINTER SEASON. LOCAL BUSINESSES, MOST OF WHICH ARE SMALL BUSINESSES OF 50 OR FEWER EMPLOYEES, WERE FORCED TO CLOSE AND UNABLE TO PAY RENT, OR OTHER OPERATIONAL EXPENSES AS A RESULT. A MICROGRANT PROGRAM, MODELED AFTER THAT OF THE U.S. CHAMBER WAS DEVELOPED AND EXECUTED, PROVIDING RELIEF TO 57 SOLE PROPRIETORS AND SMALL BUSINESSES. OUR COMMUNITY. OUR BUSINESS.
ONLY IN EXISTENCE SINCE 1973, UNINCORPORATED BIG SKY CONTINUES TO EVOLVE FROM A DESTINATION SKI RESORT INTO A SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY. TOWN IS BEING BUILT, LITERALLY ONE BLOCK AT A TIME. AS A RESULT, THE TWO OTHER STRATEGIC PILLARS OF THE BIG SKY CHAMBER ARE TO ENCOURAGE COMMUNITY INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENT AND FACILITATE LOCAL GOVERNANCE WHICH IS DONE THROUGH BI-ANNUAL EGGS&ISSUES MEETING TO ADDRESS A CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE ISSUE ALONG WITH CONVENING THE TWO LOCAL GOVERNMENT ENTITIES OVERSEEING THE COMMUNITY'S DEVELOPMENT. FURTHER, A NEWLY INSTITUTED COALITION, THE COORDINATING COUNCIL OF BIG SKY, WAS FORMED BY BRINGING TOGETHER 15 FOCUS AREAS AND COMMUNITY LEADERS. IT IS ADMINISTERED BY THE BIG SKY CHAMBER WITH THE GOAL TO ENSURE THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE NEWLY CREATED OUR BIG SKY COMMUNITY STRATEGIC PLAN.
THE BIG SKY CHAMBER'S ANNUAL MEETING SPEAKS TO THE YEAR AHEAD, RECOGNIZES MEMBER BUSINESSES AND BUSINESS PROFESSIONALS' ACHIEVEMENTS, AND FACILITATES THE ELECTION OF THE NEW BOARD MEMBERS AND OFFICERS. BECAUSE OF THE COVID19 PANDEMIC, THIS YEAR'S MEETING WAS HELD VIRTUALLY WITH MUCH OF THE DISCUSSION CENTERING AROUND A COMMUNITY MESSAGE SO STAY SAFE, STAY OPEN, STAY STRONG. BEING ABLE TO SAFELY OPEN AND SERVE OUR VISITORS WHILE PROTECTING OUR LOCALS WILL BE THE MAIN PRIORITY FOR THE CHAMBER IN THE COMING YEAR.
