Organizations Filed Purposes: Piikani Lodge Health Institute is an Indigenous founded and led 501(c)(3) non-profit organization focusing on translational strengths such as improved community economics, adaptation to a changing climate, health promotion and disease reduction, through bench science and the reclamation and integration of traditional cultural lifeways, while expanding our connection to the land and its biosystems.

Foundation for Food and Agriculture ResearchWork on the FFAR grant occurred in three primary work areas. Work area one focused on the development of a Landowner roadmap, began a socio-economic cost analysis and comparison of trust land management and identified gaps in tribal resolutions, policies and laws as they relate to food. Work area two focused on the development of food sovereignty research networks with Montana tribes and rural communities and well as national and international collaborators. Work area three focused on the develop of a 6 week traditional foods diet, development of culturally relevant curriculum encompassing foods systems, and connections between traditional diets and health improvements.

Rural Opioid Technical Assistance (ROTA) SAMHSA Tribal Liaison This work focused on opioid misuse in older adults. PLHI provided regular consultation to the Tribal Opioid Response Teams at Montana State University on substance abuse and health. PLHI assisted with project participant especially highlighting barriers to participation. PLHI conducted outreach activities to Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, Blackfeet Tribe, Northern Cheyenne Tribe, Rocky Boy Health Board, Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes, Rocky Mountain Tribal Leaders Council, Fort Belknap Indian Community and the Crow Tribe of Indians. Work supported the development of, and outreach for two Tribal Opioid Response Team Technical Assistance meetings which were held in Great Falls. Participation in bi-weekly planning meetings occurred throughout 2019.

State of Montana, Office of Public Instruction The Office of Public Instruction granted PLHI monies for the purchase of equipment for cultural gatherings. Lodges, kitchen tents, cook stoves, and a cistern. A lodge, two kitchen tents, and a cook stove were purchased.
