ST. JAMES HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION, A 501(C)(3) NOT-FOR-PROFIT CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION, WAS FORMED IN 2003, AND IT OPERATES TO ADDRESS THREE MAIN PURPOSES:1. TO RAISE FUNDS TO AUGMENT CAPITAL PURCHASES AND PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AT ST. JAMES HEALTHCARE.2. TO PROVIDE DIRECT ASSISTANCE TO INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS IN BUTTE AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES IN RELATION TO HEALTH CARE AND HEALTHY LIVING.3. TO CONDUCT OUTREACH AND AWARENESS ACTIVITIES TO MAINTAIN ST. JAMES AND ITS FOUNDATION AS VISIBLE COMMUNITY PARTNERS IN IMPROVING THE LIVING EXPERIENCE OF LOCAL CITIZENS AND VISITORS. ST. JAMES HEALTHCARE COVERS THE ADMINISTRATIVE COSTS OF THE FOUNDATION SO 100% OF ASSOCIATE AND COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTIONS GO DIRECTLY TOWARD HELPING PEOPLE IN NEED. THE ST. JAMES HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION OFFERS MANY HELPFUL PROGRAMS AND SERVICES INCLUDING:PATIENT COMPASSION PROGRAMTHE PATIENT COMPASSION PROGRAM OFFERS FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO INDIVIDUALS AND THEIR FAMILIES THROUGHOUT SOUTHWEST MONTANA WHO MUST TRAVEL OUT OF TOWN TO GET SPECIALIZED MEDICAL TREATMENT NOT AVAILABLE IN BUTTE. THE PROGRAM ALSO PROVIDES ASSISTANCE TO PATIENTS FROM THE SURROUNDING AREA TO TRAVEL TO BUTTE FOR THEIR MEDICAL CARE. IT HELPS FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS WITH FUEL COSTS, HOTEL EXPENSES, BUS VOUCHERS, AIRLINE TICKETS, AND OTHER EXPENSES. IN ADDITION TO TRAVEL ASSISTANCE, THE PROGRAM HELPS PATIENTS AFTER BEING DISCHARGED FROM THE HOSPITAL WITH RECOVERY MEDICATION, EQUIPMENT AT HOME, AND CO-PAYS. DIABETES PROGRAMSEVERAL YEARS AGO, ST. JAMES HEALTHCARE ESTABLISHED A COMMUNITY-WIDE DIABETES PROGRAM WITH THE HELP OF A FEDERAL PLANNING GRANT THROUGH THE U. S. DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES' HEALTH RESOURCES AND SERVICE ADMINISTRATION (HRSA). THE GOAL OF THE PROGRAM IS TO DEVELOP A NETWORK WITHIN THE COMMUNITY AND TO HAVE A CENTRAL PLAN OF ACTION FOR THOSE AT RISK OF DEVELOPING OR PREVIOUSLY DIAGNOSED WITH DIABETES. THROUGH THE PROGRAM, ST. JAMES HEALTHCARE COLLABORATES WITH ORGANIZATIONS AND HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS THROUGHOUT SOUTHWEST MONTANA WHO DEAL WITH DIABETES. A DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM GRANT FROM THE MONTANA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES HELPS PREVENT DIABETES IN THOSE AT RISK THROUGH TEACHING PEOPLE ABOUT NUTRITION AND ACTIVITIES TO PREVENT THE ONSET OF DIABETES.FITKIDS360 PROGRAMFITKIDS360 IS AN EVIDENCE-BASED PROGRAM THAT HAS BEEN SHOWN TO MAKE MEANINGFUL AND MEASURABLE CHANGES IN CHILDREN'S LIVES WITH THE GOAL OF ESTABLISHING PERMANENT LIFESTYLE CHANGES WHICH WILL IMPACT LIFELONG HEALTH.THE SEVEN-WEEK COURSE TARGETS CHILDREN BETWEEN THE AGES OF 5 AND 16 AND THEIR FAMILIES, WHO, TOGETHER, LEARN WAYS TO CHANGE THEIR BEHAVIOR AND ENVIRONMENT TO CREATE A HEALTHIER LIFESTYLE. THE INSTRUCTION TEAM INCLUDES A REGISTERED DIETICIAN, A PEDIATRICIAN, A PEDIATRIC CASE MANAGER, AND AN EXERCISE SPECIALIST AND FITNESS INSTRUCTOR. EACH FAMILY ALSO HAS A MENTOR THAT IS AVAILABLE FOR SUPPORT THROUGHOUT THE PROGRAM. EACH WEEK, FAMILIES LEARN ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF PROPER NUTRITION AND EXERCISE IN A FUN-FILLED ENVIRONMENT.SCHOLARSHIPSST. JAMES HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION IS PROUD TO OFFER SCHOLARSHIPS TO INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE CHOSEN HEALTH CARE AS THEIR FIELD OF STUDY. THERE ARE TWO SCHOLARSHIPS THAT ARE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE:BERN AND RUTH DENNEHY SCHOLARSHIPST. JAMES NURSING ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIPST. JAMES FOUNDATION PROVIDES AND MANAGES THE FOLLOWING GRANT FUNDS IN SUPPORT OF THE HEALTHCARE NEEDS OF THE COMMUNITY. UNRESTRICTED/GREATEST NEED - DOLLARS NOT RESTRICTED TO A SPECIFIC FUND THAT ARE TRANSFERRED TO ST. JAMES ON A QUARTERLY BASIS FOR THEM TO DETERMINE THE AREA OF GREATEST NEED TO USE THOSE DOLLARS.ASSOCIATE CRISIS FUND - LOANS AND A FEW GRANTS GIVEN TO ASSOCIATES DURING TIMES OF CRISIS. ASSOCIATES MUST FILL OUT PAPERWORK AS WELL AS MEET CERTAIN CRITERIA TO BE AWARDED THESE LOANS/GRANTS.CANCER CENTER FUND - DOLLARS GO TO THE CANCER CENTER FOR PATIENT AND DEPARTMENT NEEDS.MOM'S SUPPORT GROUP - MONEY USED FOR SUPPLIES FOR A NEW MOM'S SUPPORT GROUP FOR THE COMMUNITY.HELMSLEY - A 4.2 MILLION DOLLAR GRANT THAT WILL BE TRANSFERRED OVER TO ST. JAMES HEALTHCARE THROUGH 2019-2021 FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A 2ND CATH LAB IN ST. JAMES HEALTHCARE.OB - MONEY RAISED AT LAST YEAR'S SPIRIT GALA TO MAKE RENOVATIONS AND UPGRADES ON THE OB FLOOR.PATIENT COMPASSION FUND - FUNDS ARE USED TO HELP PATIENTS IN NEED. INCLUDES HELP WITH PRESCRIPTION CO-PAYS, GAS CARDS, LODGING AND HOTEL IF THERE IS A NEED TO TRAVEL, GROCERIES, AND OTHER THINGS OUR CASE MANAGERS AT ST. JAMES HEALTHCARE DEEMS IS OUR PATIENTS GREATEST NEED DURING THEIR MEDICAL CRISIS. PHARMACY - REIMBURSEMENT FOR CONFERENCES AND CONTINUED EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES FOR ST. JAMES PHARMACISTS. RESPIRATORY EDUCATION - A FUND SET UP BY DR. CHAN AT ST. JAMES TO GIVE THE GIFT OF CONTINUED EDUCATION TO RESPIRATORY THERAPISTS AT ST. JAMES HEALTHCARE.DPHHS GRANT - DIABETES PREVENTION GRANT THAT FUNDS OUR DIABETES PROGRAM AT ST. JAMES HEALTHCARE. DIABETES OTHER - SENDS KIDS IN BUTTE TO THE STATE DIABETES KIDS CAMP EACH SUMMER.
