FORWARD MONTANA FOUNDATION EDUCATES, ENGAGES, AND ORGANIZES YOUNG MONTANANS TO SHAPE THEIR DEMOCRACY TO IMPROVE THEIR LIVES AND THE LIVES OF THEIR FELLOW MONTANANS.
EDUCATE, ENGAGE, & ORGANIZE YOUNG MONTANANS TO IMPROVE THEIR COMMUNITIES & SHAPE THEIR DEMOCRACY
2019 WAS A YEAR OF TRANSITION AND GROWTH FOR THE ORGANIZATION. NOT ONLY DID WE GRACEFULLY TRANSITION KEY LEADERSHIP AND ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS, BUT WE ALSO EXPANDED OUR PROGRAM CAPACITY.LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENTWE GRADUATED 34 INTERNS AND 5 HIGH SCHOOL FELLOWS OVER THE COURSE OF THE YEAR. SHARED WITH OUR SISTER ORGANIZATION, FORWARD MONTANA, THESE INTERNS GAINED HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE AND CLASSROOM KNOWLEDGE IN GRASSROOTS ORGANIZING, STRATEGY, AND TACTICS GROUNDED IN EQUITY AND JUSTICE. WE HOSTED OUR ANNUAL YOUTH ORGANIZING SUMMIT, BRINGING 73 YOUNG MONTANANS TOGETHER FOR A WEEKEND OF TRAINING, NETWORKING, AND CHANGEMAKING. DURING THIS EVENT, WE HONORED 25 YOUNG MONTANANS WHO ARE MOVING THEIR COMMUNITIES FORWARD DURING OUR FLAGSHIP 25 UNDER 25 AWARDS PROGRAM.
ISSUE ADVOCACYYOUNG PEOPLE BECOME CIVICALLY ENGAGED BECAUSE OF THE ISSUES THEY CARE ABOUT LIKE CLIMATE CHANGE AND PUBLIC LANDS, AFFORDABLE HOUSING AND EDUCATION, AND LGBTQ EQUALITY. OUR TEAM ADVOCATED FOR THE POLICIES THAT REFLECT THE VISION AND VALUES OF YOUNG MONTANANS. WE HOSTED LOCAL EDUCATIONAL HAPPY HOURS, COLLECTED STORIES AND TESTIMONIES FROM OUR PEERS, WROTE LETTERS-TO-THE-EDITORS AND OPEDS, AND MONITORED LEGISLATION.
VOTER REGISTRATION AND MOBILIZATIONOUR VOTER REGISTRATION PROGRAM CONTINUES TO BE THE LARGEST 3RD-PARTY VOTER REGISTRATION PROGRAM IN THE STATE. WE HELD THREE MAJOR VOTER REGISTRATION EVENTS IN COMMUNITIES ACROSS MONTANA: CAMPUS TOUR, NATIONAL VOTER REGISTRATION DAY, AND STUDENT VOTER DAY. ADDITIONALLY, OUR FIELD TEAMS ARE REGISTERING VOTERS AT COMMUNITY AND CAMPUS EVENTS ACROSS THE STATE.WE MOBILIZED YOUNG VOTERS IN MONTANA TO TURN OUT FOR THEIR LOCAL MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS. THIS INCLUDED MAKING 11,606 PHONE CALLS TO OUR PEERS AND HOSTING CALL NIGHTS WITH OUR HIGH SCHOOL FELLOWS.
