THE ROXY THEATER, IS A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION WHOSE MISSION IS TO INSPIRE, EDUCATE & ENGAGE DIVERSE AUDIENCES ABOUT THE NATURAL AND HUMAN WORLDS THROUGH CINEMATIC AND CULTURAL EVENTS.

Founded in 1977 and today, with a new name, the Roxy Theater is a revitalized and lively hub for arts & culture. Whatever it takes, the dedication and passion of The Roxy is to maintain a safe and inclusive community space for our vital programs. The Roxy Theater expanded programs and impact through community oriented mission-driven projects. Attendance at the theater was reduced in 2020 due Covid -19, as the theater was forced to close to the public on March 15. Despite the closure we reached an audience of 48,054 with over 350 films, programs and events before the pandemic. In July 2019 theater upgraded some of its sounds system to better serve the Missoula community and the numerous organizations that present programming at the Roxy. We also replaced the seating in our historic theater, slightly reducing our capacity, but greatly improving the comfort of the movie-going experience. The International Wildlife Film Festival (IWFF), celebrated its 43nd year in 2020, but due to Covid-19 the event was relegated to an online event. However, access to virtual screenings still brought in large audiences and a windfall of donations for the organization. The festival played around the world presenting the work of scientists, conservationists and filmmakers. Over 10,000 viewings of 71 film screenings. IWFF also presented IWFF Labs, an immersive science filmmaking workshop. The Montana Film Festival is a four day event dedicated to the exploration and celebration of film as art. In its fifth year running, with 30 films and 25 visiting filmmakers, the event attracted an audience of nearly 2000.Other areas of focus for the organization include the expansion of year-round volunteers. 350+ volunteers completed orientation, trained and served this year, serving over 1000 hours. The Roxy Film Academy (RFA) presented summer programming to area children aged 8-14. During the school year RFA conducted a residency at Willard Alternative High School and several partnerships with Missoula Public Schools with funding provided by the Any Given Child Initiative and Spark! Arts of Missoula. In all, the RFA reached over 500 children and young adults in our community.Another area of growth is continued and newly developed partnerships with nonprofits, educational and community groups. Some of the over 150 groups we partnered with in FY 19/20 include University of Montana, Humane Society of Western Montana, Arts Missoula, The Pride Foundation, Montana Wildlife Federation, Montana Film Office, Missoula Clark Fork Coalition, Missoula Community Foundation, Missoula Cultural Council, Montana Museum of Arts & Culture. Additionally, The Roxy was supported by dozens of local, regional and national businesses and corporations and 1500 individual donors.
