North American Congress for Conservation Biology (NACCB) - The biennial NACCB represents an important facet of SCBNA's workto foster communication among conservation scientists and practitioners in North America. The goal of NACCB is to provide a forum for presenting and discussing new research, developments and strategies that will inform policy changes and conservation practices to address today's conservation challenges. The 2020 NACCB, originally scheduled for Denver, CO in July 2020 (now being held virtually as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic), will host multiple workshops, short courses, interactive sessions, symposia and contributed oral, speed and poster presentations, along with several opportunities for professional development, networking, and collaboration. NACCB is the organization's largest program providing services to members.
Education, Policy, Equity, Inclusion & Diversity, and Chapters Services - Members (1200) benefit from SCBNA guidance and initiatives including trainings, guidance/collaboration on policy statements and recommendations, and other opportunities to strengthen the conservation science professional community at the local, national and continental levels. In 2019, SCBNA planned for travel and financial assistance grants to students, chapter members and underrepresented groups to ease the financial burden of attending NACCB 2020. Planning for education-focused activities included student presentation competitions and mentor match programs. SCBNA also developed joint policy statements and letters focused on endangered species conservation and other important conservation topics. SCBNA also developed equity, inclusion & diversity programming for NACCB 2020.
Membership and Development Services - SCBNA provides a strong collective voice for the science and practice of conservation. SCBNA maintains a news blog and regular newsletter. SCBNA supports members' conservation science efforts by providing resources, events, and other opportunities to strengthen the conservation science professional community at the local, national and continental levels. SCBNA also shares opportunities and resources with its membership via its social media channels. In addition to past and current newsletters and the news blog, the SCBNA website is home to several resources related to the programs detailed in 4a and 4b above.
