Organizations Filed Purposes:
TO FOSTER A SENSE OF COMMUNITY THROUGH MUSIC BY PROVIDING THE FULLEST POSSIBLE ARRAY OF MUSICAL EXPERIENCES FOR PEOPLE OF ALL AGES, MUSICAL ABILITIES, AND BACKGROUNDS.
IN FY2019, A TOTAL OF 1,575 PARTICIPANTS OF ALL AGES, ABILITIES AND BACKGROUNDS STUDIED WITH 50 CCMS FACULTY MEMBERS WEEKLY THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. AT THE HOME CAMPUS IN CONCORD, 910 STUDENTS WERE ENROLLED IN WEEKLY PRIVATE LESSONS AND ENSEMBLES, AS WELL AS SHORTER-TERM CAMPS AND WORKSHOPS. THEY RANGED IN AGE FROM 6 MONTHS TO 96 YEARS OLD, AND INCLUDED STUDENTS PREPARING FOR CAREERS AS PROFESSIONAL MUSICIANS, OLDER ADULTS RECOVERING FROM STROKE, AND PRESCHOOLERS IN MUSIC & MOVEMENT CLASSES. MUSIC IN THE COMMUNITY INITIATIVE (MICI) PARTNERSHIPS THROUGHOUT NH SERVED 665 PARTICIPANTS WITH FREE MUSIC EDUCATION AND THERAPEUTIC SERVICES FOR THOSE UNABLE TO ATTEND CLASSES IN CONCORD BECAUSE OF BARRIERS POSED BY LOW INCOME OR DISABILITY. THESE PARTNERSHIPS CONTINUED IN FY19 TO WORK WITH NEW AMERICAN REFUGEES AND IMMIGRANTS, INCLUDING MULTIPLE TEENAGERS FROM AFRICAN COUNTRIES REFERRED TO CCMS THROUGH CONCORD SCHOOL DISTRICT SOCIAL WORKERS, AND SONGSHARING WITH NEW AMERICAN. IN SERVING THE YOUNGEST CHILDREN AFFECTED BY THE OPIOID EPIDEMIC, THE CCMS DANCE THERAPIST WORKS EVERY WEEK TO PROVIDE COPING SKILLS FOR VERY YOUNG CHILDREN WITH EXTREME TRAUMA REACTIONS, WHO ARE LIVING IN FOSTER CARE BECAUSE THEIR PARENTS ARE AFFECTED BY SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER. THE CCMS MUSIC THERAPIST WORKS TO CREATE OPTIMAL EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT FOR PRESCHOOLERS AT THRIVE WHO ARE IN A RESIDENTIAL FACILITY BECAUSE OF THE EXTREME TRAUMA THEY HAVE EXPERIENCED FROM ABUSE OR ABANDONMENT.CCMS SERVES NUMEROUS STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS DUE TO PHYSICAL, DEVELOPMENTAL OR EMOTIONAL DISABILITIES, WITH THOSE SERVICES DIRECTED BY A FACULTY MUSIC THERAPIST AND DANCE MOVEMENT THERAPIST. IN FY 2019, WE SERVED MORE THAN 400 WEEKLY PARTICIPANTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS SUCH AS AUTISM, ALZHEIMER'S, TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY, STROKE, NEONATAL ABSTINENCE SYNDROME, SCHIZOPHRENIA, ASPERGER'S, DOWN SYNDROME, DYSLEXIA, MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY, MUTISM, SPEECH AND LANGUAGE PROCESSING, AND A BROAD RANGE OF PHYSICAL DISABILITIES. WE WERE A LEAD PARTNER WITH RIVERBEND COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH IN THEIR INAUGURAL MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH IN MAY 2019, PRODUCIN WEEKLY LUNCHTIME TALKS ABOUT MUSICAL PATHWAYS FOR MENTAL HEALTH, AND HOSTING A CONCERT AND PANEL ON LGBTQ ISSUES WITH THE NH GAY MEN'S CHORUS.IN FY19, CCMS PRODUCED MORE THAN 100 PUBLIC MUSICAL EVENTS, REACHING AUDIENCE MEMBERS WITH STUDENT AND PROFESSIONAL CONCERTS IN CONCORD AND THROUGHOUT NEW ENGLAND. THESE RANGE FROM THE FREE BACH'S LUNCH SERIES AND MANY STUDENT CONCERTS, TO TICKETED FOLK, CHAMBER MUSIC, AND JAZZ CONCERTS. THE MARCH MANDOLIN AND FALL FIDDLE FESTIVALS ATTRACT INTERNATIONAL PARTICIPANTS FROM OUT-OF-STATE, CANADA, AND ITALY, AND COLLEAGUE MUSICAL ORGANIZATIONS ALSO PRESENT COMPETITIONS, CONCERTS AND WORKSHOPS AT CCMS. AUDIENCES INCLUDE OLDER ADULTS, HOME-SCHOOLED CHILDREN, MENTAL HEALTH CLIENTS, MUSIC EDUCATORS, CCMS FAMILIES, DOWNTOWN PROFESSIONALS, AND OTHERS.
