Organizations Filed Purposes: SINCE 1974, NEW HAMPSHIRE HUMMANITIES HAS BROUGHT THE POWER OF IDEAS TO PEOPLE OF ALL WALKS OF LIFE, IN EVERY CORNER OF THE STATE. OUR PROGRAMS STIMULATE MINDS, STRENGTHEN COMMUNITY BONDS, BOLSTER STRUGGLING ORGANIZATIONS, AND CONTRIBUTE TO OUR STATE'S CIVIC WEALTH. WE CONNECT THE PEOPLE OF NH TO CULTURE, HISTORY, PLACES, IDEAS, AND TO ONE ANOTHER. WE GET NH CITIZENS TALKING ABOUT CRITICAL ISSUES SUCH AS IMMIGRATION, THE ROLE OF RELIGON IN AMERICAN LIFE, AND COMTEMPORARY CONSTITUTIONAL CHALLENGES. WE INVITE CITIZENS TO REASON TOGETHER IN FACILITATED GROUPS, TO LEARN FROM AND LISTEN TO ONE ANOTHER. WE OFFER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT THAT STRENGTHENS THE TEACHING OF HUMANITIES, K-12 AND THROUGH CONNECTIONS WE SUPPORT ADULT LITEACY AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE ACQUISITION, WELCOMING NEW READERS AND NEW AMERICANS INTO A WORLD OF BOOKS, IDEAS, AND OPPORTUNITY.

THE HUMANITIES HELP US UNDERSTAND OUR COMPLEX PAST THROUGH EXAMINATIONS OF HISTORY AND CULTURE. THEY GUIDE US IN SEEKING UNDERSTANDING OF OURSELVES AND ONE ANOTHER THROUGH MEANINGFUL DIALOGUE ABOUT QUESTIONS THAT COUNT. THE HUMANITIES OPENS DOORS OF KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING THAT HELP US TO BECOME FULL MEMBERS OF SOCIETY.

HUMANITIES TO GO BRINGS NEIGHBORS TOGETHER FOR LEARNING AND THOUGHTFUL CONVERSATION WHILE CONNECTING NH RESIDENTS TO OUR STATE'S RICH HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL RESOURCES. THE HUMANITIES TO GO SPEAKERS' BUREAU INCLUDES DIFFERENT HIGH-QUALITY LECTURES AND LIVING HISTORY PRESENTATIONS BY DIFFERENT NH SCHOLARS. THIS DECEPTIVELY SIMPLE PROGRAM OFFERS A LIFELINE TO CASH-STRAPPED LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS THAT COULD NOT AFFORD TO CREATE OR PAY FOR SUCH PROGRAMS ON THEIR OWN.

COMMUNITY PROJECT GRANTS ENABLE NEW HAMPSHIRE NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS TO DESIGN AND CARRY OUT PUBLIC HUMANITIES PROGRAMS WITH THE HELP OF EXPERTS IN PHILOSOPHY, HISTORY, LITERATURE AND OTHER HUMANITIES DISCIPLINES RELEVANT TO THEIR TOPIC. FROM DYNAMIC LECTURES AND FACILITATED DISCUSSIONS, TO WALKING TOURS, ORAL HISTORY WORKSHOPS AND TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SEMINARS, THESE PROGRAMS CREATE OPPORTUNITIES FOR PARTICIPANTS TO EXPLORE NEW KNOWLEDGE AND DISCUSS UNIVERSAL QUESTIONS.

CONNECTIONS SERVES A VITAL ROLE FOR RESOURCE-STRAPPED LITERACY PROGRAMS, BRINGING A LITERATURE BASED APPROACH THAT ENHANCES READING AND WRITING SKILLS, BUILDS CAPACITY TO THINK CRITICALLY, STIMULATES DISCUSION, BROADENS PERSPECTIVES AND INSTILLS CONFIDENCE. CONNECTIONS PROMOTES ADULT LITERACY IN NH BY BRINGING FACILITATED BOOK DISCUSSION SERIES TO ADULT LEARNING CENTERS IN VARIOUS LOCATIONS ACROSS THE STATE EACH YEAR. THE PROGRAM ALSO PROVIDES PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR FACILITATORS, TEACHERS AND TUTORS WITH WORKSHOPS, ONLINE RESOURCES AND MODELING OF INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS.
