TO PROVIDE AND PROMOTE EDUCATION, CULTURAL AND ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES FOR THE RESIDENTS OF AND VISTORS TO THE COMMUNITIES OF THE MONADNOCK REGION OF NEW HAMPSHIRE, AND TO LEASE AND/OR OWN, AND MAINTAIN PHYSICAL FACILITIES.
THE MISSION OF THE PARK THEATRE IS "TO PROVIDE AND PROMOTE EDUCATIONAL, CULTURAL AND ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES FOR THE RESIDENTS OF, AND VISITORS TO, THE MONADNOCK REGION OF NEW HAMPSHIRE COMMUNITIES, AND TO OWN AND MAINTAIN PHYSICAL FACILITIES."THE ONGOING CONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW PARK THEATRE MANDATED THE CONTINUED NEED TO UTILIZE THE INTERIM PERFORMANCE AND MOVIE VENUE, THE RIVER STREET THEATRE (RST), AS A CONSTRUCTION OFFICE. THIS USE MEANT THAT ALMOST ALL PUBLIC PROGRAMS WOULD NEED TO BE PRODUCED IN OUTSIDE LOCATIONS OR VIRTUALLY. THE RST WAS TEMPORARILY BROUGHT BACK FOR TWO EVENTS. FOR THE 4TH YEAR IN A ROW, THREE HOURS OF CONTINUOUS CARTOONS PRESENTED AT THE RST FREE-OF-CHARGE AS PART OF JAFFREY'S RIVERFEST. ADDITIONALLY, THE RST WAS USED ONE WEEKEND IN NOVEMBER TO PRODUCE "PLAY IN A DAY" (WRITTEN AND STAGED IN 24 HOURS).THE PARK THEATRE PARTICIPATED IN THE ANNUAL DOWNTOWN HALLOWEEN TRICK OR TREAT CANDY HANDOUT EVENT, WITH OVER 400 CHILDREN RECEIVING FREE CANDIES. FOR VETERANS DAY, THE HIGHLY ACCLAIMED DOCUMENTARY, THEY SHALL NOT GROW OLD, WAS PRESENTED FREE-OF-CHARGE AT THE JAFFREY WOMAN'S CLUB.SEVERAL FUNDRAISING EVENTS WERE PRODUCED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE AMERICAN LEGION IN DOWNTOWN JAFFREY. A FILMED PRODUCTION ABOUT THE LIFE OF JANIS JOPLIN SCREENED IN NOVEMBER AND BOSTON'S CHRIS FITZ BLUES BAND PERFORMED A ROUSING SHOW THAT MONTH AS WELL. THE MILL CITY RAGS BAND WAS PRESENTED AT THE LEGION AS WELL. IN HONOR OF MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. DAY IN JANUARY, THE HIGHLY HONORED FILM, THE GREAT DEBATERS, WAS OFFERED FREE-OF-CHARGE AT THE JAFFREY WOMAN'S CLUB.THE ONSET OF COVID-19 FORCED THE CANCELATION OF MANY FUNDRAISING CONCERTS AND FILMS THAT WERE PLANNED FOR THE SPRING AND SUMMER.IN LATE MARCH, THE TRUSTEES APPROVED A RECOMMENDATION FROM THE CEO TO DEVELOP A TWICE-WEEKLY LIVE TV BROADCAST, MONADNOCK TONIGHT!, WHICH CONSISTED OF INTER-VIEWS AND PERFORMANCES IN EACH SHOW AND PROVIDING UP-TO-THE-MINUTE INFORMATION ABOUT EVENTS AND CONDITIONS IN TOWN AND THE REGION TO HELP INDIVIDUALS WITH THE PANDEMIC. BROADCAST WAS OVER FACEBOOK LIVE. THIS VIRTUAL PROGRAMMING (29 SHOWS) FROM MARCH 24 THROUGH JUNE 30TH, HAD 10,744 VIEWS ON FACEBOOK AND HAD BEEN WATCHED FOR ALMOST 28,000 MINUTES BY FISCAL YEAR'S END.THE PROGRAMMING AND PARTNERSHIPS, OFFERING A DIVERSE RANGE OF ARTS, CULTURE, AND ENTERTAINMENT, HAVE PROVIDED SIGNIFICANT INCREMENTAL TRAFFIC TO DOWNTOWN JAFFREY AND ITS BUSINESSES. SINCE 2007, OVER 27,853 PATRONS HAVE ATTENDED PROGRAMS PRE-SENTED BY THE PARK THEATRE. FROM JULY 2019 TO JUNE 2020, THE PARK THEATRE, RIVER STREET THEATRE, AND MONAD-NOCK TONIGHT! PRESENTED 48 EVENTS AND WITH 11,712 ATTENDEES. BASED ON THE AMERICANS FOR THE ARTS NEWEST ARTS & ECONOMIC PROSPERITY STUDY CALCULATOR, THE THEATRE'S ACTIVITIES HAVE GENERATED AN ESTIMATED (FROM 2007 THROUGH JUNE 2020) $364,764 IN COMMERCE TO LOCAL MERCHANTS.AS THE JUNE 30, 2020, THE PARK THEATRE WAS ALMOST FINISHED WITH ITS CONSTRUCTION AS THE SEATS IN THE MAIN AUDITORIUM WERE INSTALLED. COVID-19 DELAYED THE SCHEDULED SUMMER OPENING OF THE NEW THEATRE. HOWEVER, THE TRUSTEES ARE CONFIDENT THERE WILL BE AN APPROVED, SAFE OPENING IN THE FALL OF 2020. THE THEATRE IS EXPECTED TO RECEIVE A CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY IN AUGUST OF 2020.THE VISION FOR THE PARK THEATRE IS THAT IT WILL BE "A REGIONAL CENTER FOR THE ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT, A MEETING PLACE FOR THE COMMUNITY AND A DYNAMIC FORCE IN THE REGION'S ECONOMIC VITALITY AND QUALITY OF LIFE."
