WISE LEADS THE UPPER VALLEY TO END GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE THROUGH SURVIVOR-CENTERED ADVOCACY, PREVENTION, EDUCATION AND MOBILIZATION FOR SOCIAL CHANGE. WISE PROVIDES SERVICES TO VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC AND SEXUAL VIOLENCE AND STALKING WITHIN 21 COMMUNITIES ACROSS 3 COUNTIES IN NEW HAMPSHIRE AND VERMONT (872 SQUARE MILES). WISE IS THE LEADING EDUCATOR ON THE COMPONENTS OF HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS, INCLUDING PROVIDING VIOLENCE PREVENTION CURRICULUMS TO ADOLESCENTS IN ALL 9 SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN OUR SERVICE AREA. WISE'S CONFIDENTIAL AND FREE SERVICES INCLUDE: 24-HOUR CONFIDENTIAL CRISIS LINE, EMERGENCY SHELTER (WISE SAFE HOME AND SHORT-TERM MOTEL STAYS), TRANSITIONAL HOUSING ASSISTANCE, LEGAL ADVOCACY, SAFETY PLANNING, SUPPORT GROUPS, IN-PERSON ADVOCACY, AND ACCOMPANIMENT FOR VICTIMS AT POLICE STATIONS, COURT, HOSPITALS, AND SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCIES. WISE SUPPORTS VICTIMS IN OTHER CREATIVE WAYS, INCLUDING WRITING GROUPS, YOGA CLASSES, SOBRIETY MEETINGS, AND A THERAPEUTIC HORSE RIDING PROGRAM.
THE WISE CRISIS AND ADVOCACY PROGRAM IS AN ESTABLISHED COMMUNITY RESOURCE FOR VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC AND SEXUAL VIOLENCE. THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES A CONTINUUM OF SERVICES AND SUPPORTS TO VICTIMS AND THEIR CHILDREN, INCLUDING 24-HOUR CRISIS INTERVENTION, EMERGENCY SHELTER, TRANSITIONAL HOUSING SUPPORT, HOSPITAL ACCOMPANIMENT, LAW ENFORCEMENT AND COURT ADVOCACY, SERVICE COORDINATION, PEER SUPPORT GROUPS, AND ON-GOING SUPPORTIVE SERVICES. WISE ALSO PROVIDES INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS SUCH AS WRITING GROUPS, YOGA, WOMEN AND SOBRIETY GROUPS, AND A THERAPEUTIC HORSE PROGRAM. DURING THE YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2020, WISE PROVIDED ADVOCACY SUPPORT TO 1,135 SURVIVORS.
THE WISE MULTIDISCIPLINARY INTERVIEW AND TRAINING CENTER (MITC) IS A UNIQUE COLLABORATION THAT EFFECTIVELY RESPONDS TO AGGRAVATED DOMESTIC ASSAULT THROUGH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF FORENSIC EXPERIENTIAL TRAUMA INTERVIEWS (FETI) FOR VICTIMS WITH SUPPORT FROM ADVOCATES AND COORDINATED INVESTIGATION FROM LAW ENFORCEMENT, PROVIDES OUTREACH AND TRAINING TO LAW ENFORCEMENT IN TRAUMA-INFORMED INVESTIGATIVE PROCESSES, AND CULTIVATES A CONSISTENT SOURCE OF EXPERT WITNESSES FROM THE PROFESSIONAL COMMUNITY TO SUPPORT CASES IN CRIMINAL PROCEEDINGS.
THE WISE PREVENTION AND EDUCATION PROGRAM (PEP) WORKS WITH YOUTH, PROFESSIONALS, AND THE COMMUNITY TO DEVELOP RELEVANT AND COMPREHENSIVE PREVENTION STRATEGIES. THROUGH WELL-DEVELOPED COLLABORATIONS WITH NINE SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN NEW HAMPSHIRE AND VERMONT, WISE DELIVERS PREVENTION EDUCATION TO ADOLESCENTS THROUGH EVIDENCED-BASED CURRICULA THAT FOCUS ON BUILDING SKILLS AND BEHAVIORS WHICH ENCOURAGE STRONG, RESPECTFUL, AND HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS. ADDITIONALLY, WISE CONDUCTS TRAININGS FOR MEDICAL, LEGAL, AND LAW ENFORCEMENT PROFESSIONALS ON THE COMPLEX ISSUES OF VICTIMS OF VIOLENCE. DURING THE YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2020, WISE DELIVERED 469 PRESENTATIONS AND REACHED 5,080 YOUTH IN SCHOOL-BASED ENVIRONMENTS, AND REACHED APPROXIMATELY 1,135 ADULT COMMUNITY MEMBERS, INCLUDING PROFESSIONALS.
