The Music Hall is a community-supported, nonprofit performing arts center that, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, annually entertained more than 108,000 patrons -including 15,000+ school children- with acclaimed film, music, theater, literary, and dance performances in two theaters in downtown Portsmouth, NH. Its historic 900-seat theater, built in 1878, is the oldest in New Hampshire. The other is the Loft, a modern 124-seat theater across the street. The Music Hall presents diverse and relevant programming, including its signature series such as Writers on a New England Stage, Hilarity and Intimately Yours. The theater also hosts community fundraisers and celebrations for the benefit of more than 60 local nonprofits. Studies show that before the pandemic The Music Hall and its patrons contributed $9.5 million annually to the local economy through non-ticket related visitor spending.
