Organizations Filed Purposes:
Through its activities, Friends of Moeckel Pond will develop for the Town of Windham a premier pond, wetland and nature area that will provide wildlife and environmental protection, educational experiences, historical renovation, passive water sports activities, and a fire protection reservoir.
In 2020, the water diversion were reestablished enabling the continuation of the reconstruction effort. Through the fall, reinforcing steel was drilled into the underlying bedrock securing a base for the dam. 1000 yards of concrete with additional steel reinforcement was poured in custom forms and the reconstructed dam emerged. With the addition of proper fencing and site finish work the Dam passed the inspection of the New Hampshire Dam Bureau and permission to refill the pond was granted. Work will continue into 2021 to finish the requirements of the Land and Water Conservation Fund Grant fully completing the primary mission of the organization. A continuing dependence on the NH Lottery Commision's Charity Gaming is needed to repay the indebtedness incurred to compete the dam construction.
