Organizations Filed Purposes: TO HELP MAINTAIN THE HIGHEST POSSIBLE STANDARDS IN ATHLETICS AND IN THE COACHING PROFESSION AND TO WORK TOGETHER FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF CONDITIONS IN NEW MEXICO HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS BY: --FOSTERING THE KNOWLEDGE OF SPORTS SKILLS, THE PSYCHOLOGY OF COACHING, ETHICS OF COACHING, AND SPORTSMANSHIP BY CONDUCTING COACHING SCHOOLS AND BY OFFERING THE TRAINING COACHES NEED TO BECOME LICENSED; --FOSTERING THE STUDY OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND ENCOURAGING THE DEVELOPMENT OF YOUNG COACHES; --SUPPORTING ACTIVITIES THAT WILL HELP PROVIDE HIGHER EDUCATION OPPORTUNITY FOR THE YOUTH OF NEW MEXICO; AND --ENCOURAGING RESEARCH AND PREPARATION OF PUBLICATIONS DEVOTED TO ENHANCING THE SKILLS OF COACHES IN NEW MEXICO.

TO HELP MAINTAIN THE HIGHEST POSSIBLE STANDARDS IN ATHLETICS AND IN THE COACHING PROFESSION AND TO WORK FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF CONDITIONS IN NEW MEXICO HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS.

COACHES CLINICS: CONDUCTED CLINICS AND OTHER EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR NEW MEXICO HIGH SCHOOL COACHES TO ASSIST THEM IN LEARNING THE TECHNIQUES, TRENDS, ETHICS, AND PHILOSOPHIES OF ATHLETIC COACHING. CLINICS AID COACHES IN SECURING A MORE THOROUGH UNDERSTANDING OF VARIOUS SPORTS AND ALSO PROVIDE THE TRAINING COACHES NEED TO BECOME BETTER COACHES. NMHSCA BELIEVES THAT EVERY STUDENT-ATHLETE DESERVES A GREAT COACH, AND THE ROLE OF THE COACHES ASSOCIATION IS TO HELP CREATE GREAT COACHES. ALL-STAR GAMES: CONDUCTED VARIOUS ALL-STAR EVENTS WHICH PROVIDE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AND COACHES THE OPPORTUNITY TO TEST THEIR SKILLS IN EVENTS BEYOND THE TRADITIONAL HIGH SCHOOL SCHEDULE. EVENTS WERE CONDUCTED IN FOOTBALL, BASEBALL, BASKETBALL, VOLLEYBALL, TENNIS, AND SOFTBALL; IN ALL, 46 ALL- STAR GAMES ACROSS 9 SPORTS WERE CONDUCTED. NMHSCA ORGANIZED 40 ALL-STAR SELECTION COMMITTEES FOR THE PURPOSE OF NOMINATING ALL-STAR SELECTIONS. NMHSCA THEN FEEDS, HOUSES, TRAINS, AND AWARDS PARTICIPANTS IN THE ALL-STAR GAMES. OVER 700 NEW MEXICO STUDENT-ATHLETES PARTICIPATED IN NORTH VS. SOUTH ALL-STAR EVENTS. SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS: OFFERED AWARDS TO STUDENTS AND COACHES WHO BEST EXHIBIT THE GOALS AND IDEALS OF NMHSCA. WORTHY CANDIDATES ARE INDUCTED INTO THE NMHSCA HALL OF HONOR AND THE COACHES MILESTONE PROGRAM. AWARDS ARE PRESENTED FOR THE NEW MEXICO COACHES AND THE ASSISTANT COACHES OF THE YEAR, THE DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD, THE COACHING FOR CHARACTER AWARD, AND THE MILESTONE AWARDS. IN ADDITION, SCHOLARSHIPS ARE OFFERED TO WORTHY GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS INCLUDING THE HANDICAPPED AS WELL AS THE CHILDREN OF NMHSCA MEMBERS. NO SCHOLARSHIPS WERE AWARDED IN THE CURRENT YEAR.
