PROJECT DOJO IS NONPROFIT COMMUNITY OUTREACH AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM IN THE SOUTHWEST OF ALBUQUERQUE. PROJECT DOJOS UNIQUE CURRICULUM DESIGNED TO EDUCATE ITS STUDENTS (AGES 4-17) IN A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT STYLES AND YET KEEP THE TRADITIONS OF MARTIAL ARTS ALIVE WHILE INCLUDING THE IDEA OF A COMMUNITY. STUDENTS LEARN DEDICATION AND RESPECT, AS WELL AS HOW TO PROTECT THEMSELVES IN A DISCIPLINE MANNER SKILLS THAT WILL HELP THEM IN BOTH SCHOOL AND IN LIFE.
-PROJECT DOJO ENCOURAGES GOOD GRADES AND IS EQUIPPED WITH HOMEWORK TABLES. STUDENTS OFTEN HELP TUTOR ONE ANOTHER. PROJECT DOJO BELIEVES EDUCATION AND SUCCESS GO HAND IN HAND. STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO ADDRESS TO PARENTS, TEACHERS AND STAFF AS " YES SIR & YES MA'AM". FOCUS DRILLS IN THE DOJO INCREASE ATTENTION AT SCHOOL. -ALBUQUERQUE PUBLIC SCHOOL RFK HIGH CONTRACTED PROJECT DOJO IN 2013-2014. RFK HIGH SCHOOL WORKS WITH STUDENTS THAT HAVE MULTIPLE BARRIERS TO ACADEMIC SUCCESS INCLUDING, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, POVERTY, LOW ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE, TRUANCY, LEARNING DISABILITIES, SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL, AND BEHAVIORAL ISSUES. RFK STUDENTS RECEIVED P.E. CREDIT FOR ATTENDING MARTIAL ART CLASSES. PROJECT DOJO NOT ONLY PROVIDED A FULL RICH CURRICULUM OF STRUCTURED EXERCISED FOR STUDENTS BUT ALSO HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO INSPIRE THE YOUTH TO STAY IN SCHOOL. STUDENTS THAT WERE ON THE VERGE OF DROPPING OUT AND UNWILLING TO SHOW RESPECT WERE DOING GREAT IN THE DOJO CLASS. SEVERAL STUDENTS GAINED CONFIDENCE, RESPECT, MOTIVATION, AND SELF DISCIPLINE. WITH THE PROPER FUNDING PROJECT DOJO HOPES TO ONE DAY TO BRING THIS UNIQUE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM OF HIGH-SCHOOL DROPOUTS TO ONE OF THE MOST AFFECTED COMMUNITIES IN ALBUQUERQUE, BY OFFERING A COMPREHENSIVE, TARGETED MENTORING SOLUTION IN THE HIGH SCHOOLS.
