To empower adults with the literacy and language skills they need to participate fully and effectively in work, civic life, and community. Reading Works meets its mission by providing free one-on-one and small group tutoring in reading, writing and speaking English. We also offer tutoring in grade school level math and preparing for the US Citizenship test and interview.

Provided free tutoring to 182 adult learners. 82% achieved a benchmark of success: achieved reading proficiency (phonemic awareness, alphabetic awareness, syntactic awareness, decoding, sight word recognition, fluency, and comprehension); writing proficiency (grammar, writing mechanics, expression); speaking and understanding English proficiency; enrolled in further education or vocational training; become employed or got a better job; voted; became US Citizen; learned survival English; helped children with homework or volunteered at children's schools. 92% of tested students demonstrated skill level improvements on standardized tests. Special project: Survival English Boot Camp: collaboration with local food bank, public libraries and refugee groups to provide English skills to refugees. Value of tutoring services given to the community: $381,015.
New Words - literacy arts project. Published three issues of a newspaper written by adult literacy students. Distributed to the general public free of charge.
