Organizations Filed Purposes:
THE MISSION OF SWOP IS TO EMPOWER THE DISENFRANCHISED IN THE SOUTHWEST TO REALIZE RACIAL AND GENDER EQUALITY, AND SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC JUSTICE.
IN 2020, SWOP FOCUSED ON EDUCATION REFORM WORK, UNDER THE BANNER OF TRANSFORM EDUCATION NEW MEXICO, AND ESTABLISHED SEVERAL NEW PARTNERSHIPS, RANGING FROM YOUTH ORGANIZING PARTNERS TO POLICY ALLIES. THE ALBUQUERQUE PUBLIC SCHOOL (APS) BOARD ALSO INVITED SWOP TO CREATE BILINGUAL CENSUS MATERIALS THAT WERE DISTRIBUTED THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT. THIS WORK LED TO SWOP BEING INVITED TO A WORKING GROUP THAT IS DEVELOPING A DISTRICTWIDE EQUITY POLICY FOR APS, WHICH IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO INVOLVE OUR MANY PARTNERS FOCUSED ON EQUITY IN EDUCATION WITHOUT HAVING TO RELY SOLELY ON THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION TO MAKE PROGRESS ON OUR GOALS. CENSUS 2020 HAS BEEN A GREAT CAMPAIGN FOR SWOP. WE HAVE FORMED TWO COMMUNITY COMMITTEES TO DO CENSUS OUTREACH, WHILE ALSO CLAIMING LEADERSHIP POSITIONS WITH THE BERNALILLO/ALBUQUERQUE COMPLETE COUNT COMMITTEE AND THE DOA ANA COMPLETE COUNT COMMITTEE.
