THE COMMUNITY ACTION FUND IMPROVES OUR COMMUNITY BY PROVIDING PROGRAM GRANTS TO QUALIFYING HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES AGENCIES IN LOS ALAMOS AND RIO ARRIBA COUNTIES. THE COMMUNITY ACTION FUND ADVANCES THE COMMON GOOD AND WORKS TO CREATE A STRONGER COMMUNITY. WE ADDRESS EDUCATION, HEALTH, AND FINANCIAL STABILITY/BASIC NEEDS SO THAT FAMILIES CAN GROW AND THRIVE.
BEHAVIORAL HEALTH(Y) COMMUNITY INITIATIVE: RIO ARRIBA COUNTY RANKS AMONG THE HIGHEST IN THE NATION IN OVERDOSE DEATHS. ACCORDING TO THE 2015-2016 RIO ARRIBA COMMUNITY HEALTH PROFILE, MENTAL HEALTH AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE- RELATED PROBLEMS LEAPT TO THE FORE AS THE SINGLE MOST PRESSING THREAT TO THE HEALTH OF RIO ARRIBA RESIDENTS. THE MOST PERVASIVE AND CHALLENGING HEALTH ISSUES REMAIN THE CONTINUED LACK OF ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE; BEHAVIORAL HEALTH ISSUES, INCLUDING THE EXTREMELY HIGH OVERDOSE DEATH RATE; AND THE RATE OF INJURIES AND ACCIDENTS. LOS ALAMOS COUNTY ADULTS REPORTED THEY EXPERIENCED FREQUENT MENTAL DISTRESS DURING THE PAST 30 DAYS AND 14.7% OF THE COUNTY POPULATION REPORTED 14 OR MORE DAYS WHEN THEY CONSIDERED THEIR MENTAL HEALTH AS -NOT GOOD", PUTTING LOS ALAMOS FOURTH HIGHEST IN THE STATE. ADDITIONALLY, STATISTICS FROM THE NM DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH INCLUDE SUICIDAL IDEATION AND SUICIDE AS A MAJOR HEALTH HAZARD FOR TEENS IN LOS ALAMOS. BECAUSE OF STATISTICS LIKE THESE, IN 2018 UWNNM PROVIDED OVER 610,000 IN FUNDING TO 31 DIFFERENT BEHAVIORAL HEALTH PROGRAMS AND INITIATIVES, PROVIDING MUCH NEEDED SERVICES TO OVER 42,000 ADULTS AND CHILDREN.
RIO ARRIBA COLLECTIVE IMPACT - TO LISTEN, CONVENE, FACILITATE AND HELP BUILD COLLECTIVE ACTION TOWARD IMPROVED OUTCOMES AND MEASURABLE RESULTS FOR INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS IN RIO ARRIBA AND LOS ALAMOS COUNTIES.
