Statehouse reporting: New Mexico in Depth produced a special print edition that was published by our media partners in nine papers around the state to set the stage for 2019's legislative session, and then focused during the session on covering education, criminal justice, environmental/energy issues, and the influence of money in politics.
Education and Criminal Justice reporting: Our education reporting utilized experiences on the ground in Dona Ana county to expore statewide issues related to multicultural and early childhood education. We also focused on state criminal justice issues related to probation and parole reform and a lack of data statewide that would allow us to know if there are racial disparities in our criminal justice system.
Emerging New Mexico Journalists: In its third year, New Mexico in Depth's fellowship program allowed us to mentor two emerging journalists of color, providing them a professional editing experience to hone their craft, opportuntities to network and build relationships, and a body of published work. In addition to the fellowship program, we worked with a stufdent intern from UNM during the spring semester.
