Organizations Filed Purposes:
HELPING THE HOMELESS AND NEEDY FAMILIES.
IN THE PAST YEAR BIENVENIDOS OUTREACH HAD A SLIGHT DECREASE IN THE NUMBER OF BOXES GIVEN OUT IN OUR FOOD BOX PROGRAM (11,336 FOR FY 19-20 VS 11,479 IN FY 18-19), AND A SLIGHT INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF LUNCHES HANDED OUT IN OUR LUNCH BAGS FOR THE HOMELESS PROGRAM (14,711 IN FY 19-20 VS. 14,479 FOR FY 18-19). OF THESE CLIENTS, THERE WERE A TOTAL OF 410 FAMILIES (1,306 PEOPLE) WHO APPLIED FOR ASSISTANCE WITH US FOR THE FIRST TIME. THE TOTAL NUMBER OF FOOD BOX PARTICIPANTS THIS YEAR WAS 1,431 FAMILIES (3,625 PEOPLE). THE DROP IN FOOD BOXES CAN BE CONTRIBUTED TO SOME OF OUR ELDERLY CLIENTS STAYING HOME DURING THE INITIAL STATE STAY-AT-HOME ORDERS.PRIVATE & RETAIL FOOD DONATIONS WERE DOWN THIS YEAR PRIMARILY DUE TO THE COVID-19 EPIDEMIC. WE NEEDED TO CUT DOWN THE AMOUNT OF PICKUPS FROM DONOR LOCATIONS DUE TO VOLUNTEERS NOT BEING AVAILABLE AND FOR A TIME AT THE BEGINNING OF THE EPIDEMIC, DONATIONS WERE NOT AS READILY AVAILABLE BECAUSE OF HOARDING AND LACK OF INVENTORY ISSUES AT THE MARKETS. OUR SPECIAL FOOD PROGRAMS FOR CHILDEREN AND FOR THOSE SUFFERING FROM MEDICAL CONDITIONS CONTINUED OT BE POPULAR WITH OUR CLIENTS AND GRANT MONIES FROM COVID-19 RELIEF FUNDS ALLOWED US TO PURCHASE MORE ORGANICS AND PESTICIDE-FREE FOODS FROM LOCAL FARMERS. MONETARY DONATIONS WERE AT THEIR HIGHEST EVER PRIMARILY BECAUSE MANY PEOPLE CONTRIBUTED TO COVID-19 RELIEF EFFORTS, HOWEVER, PRIOR TO THE START OF THE PANDEMIC, MONETARY DONATIONS WERE DOING WELL MAINLY DUE TO VERY POSITIVE MEDIA COVERAGE WE RECEIVED IN THE PAST YEAR.IN SEPTEMBER OF 2019, WE WERE GIVEN THE GO AHEAD TO SIGN UP PEOPLE IN THE SENIOR FARMERS MARKET NUTRITION PROGRAM WHICH ENABLED US TO GIVE OUR CLIENTS 60 YEARS OF AGE AND OLDER, $50.00 EACH IN CHECKS TO BE SPENT AT FARMERS MARKETS ON FRESH PRODUCE, HONEY AND BEANS.WE HAD ONLY 3,577 VISITS (DOWN FROM 6,696 IN FY 18-19) TO OUR CLOTHING ROOM AND THIS WAS DUE TO HAVING TO CLOSE THE PROGRAM DOWN BECAUSE OF COVID-19. ONLY EMERGENCY CASES FOR CLOTHING AND HOUSEWARES WERE HANDLED SINCE CLOSURE IN MARCH 2020. OUR CHRISTMAS GIFT PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN PROVIDED 450 CHILDREN OVER 900 GIFTS THIS YEAR AND EXTRA GIFTS WE RECEIVED FOR CHILDREN WERE HANDED OUT TO CHILDREN WHO VISITED WITH US DURING CHRISTMAS WEEK.WE CONTINUE TO REMAIN OPEN TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TO OUR CLIENTS. THE DECREASE IN THE NUMBER OF BOXES APPEARS TO BE MAINLY COVID-19 RELATED AS PEOPLE WERE NOT COMING OUT IN THE EARLY MONTHS OF THE EPIDEMIC. WE ARE SLOWLY REOPENING THE CLOTHING ROOM BUT HAVE DECIDED NOT TO DO OUR CHRISTMAS GIFT PROGRAM AS MANY OF THE SCHOOLS, CHURCHES AND SPECIAL GROUPS WHO PARTICIPATE IN IT WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DO SO THIS YEAR.
