The mission of the Interfaith Community Shelter is to provide safe, hospitable shelter, food, and clothing to men, women and children experiencing homelessness in the City of Santa Fe and to promote self-reliance by providing a point of entry to the other services necessary to make the transition from homelessness to stable housing. There are three components to ICSs programming; the seasonal night shelter, the Day Services Program and the Womens Summer Safe Haven.
General Program Services:During the year the IFCSG had the follwing accomplishments:Number of Discrete Individuals Served (shelter) - 1,311Overnight Guests Served - 23,171Lunches Served (Day Program) - 14,968Total Meals Served - 65,684Items of Clothing Distributed - 33,592Showers - 5,282The shelter also served 147 veterans, 356 women, and 107 individuals were placed in more permanent living conditions including apartments, homes, health facilities and centers. The demands on the shelter continue to grow and so has the need for additional resources. The shelter continues to work with federal, state and local government as well as the public to help provide aid for those experiencing homelessness.
Women's Shelter: The Womens Summer Safe Haven (WSSH) provides safe, hospitable shelter, food and clothing to women and children during those months the seasonal night shelter is closed. The original purpose for operating a seasonal night shelter was to prevent death due to hypothermia and the effects of homelessness, particularly for those individuals who were inebriated. In a similar vein, the purpose for providing a Womens Summer Safe Haven during the summer months for women utilizing the seasonal night shelter was to provide them with a safe place to be as an alternative to camping alone or partnering with a man for protection. In both scenarios, the women ICS serves are frequently at risk of manipulation (providing sexual favors) and/or violence. The majority of these women are between 50 and 79 years of age with mental/behavioral health issues that prevent them from gaining entrance to the other programs sheltering women in the City of Santa Fe.The Womens Summer Safe Haven opened on May 7, 2016, the day the night shelter shutdown for the season. With the opening of Womens Summer Safe Haven, ICS is now sheltering people year-round. In the past year, the Womens Summer Safe Haven served 163 women for 4,3044 bed nights. ICS served between 25 35 women per night.
