The "Burning of Will Shuster's Zozobra", is a unique cultural experience staged by the Kiwanis Club of Santa Fe. The event is an annual pageant which features the burning of a 50 foot marionette called "zozobra" or "old man gloom". As Zozobra burns, it is said that with him go the feelings of gloom from the past year. Zozobra, created by Will Shuster, was introduced to the Santa Fe Fiestas in 1924. The Kiwanis Club of Santa Fe was assigned all rights in "Zozobra" by artist Shuster on June 19, 1964. Currently Zozobra requires over 3,500 volunteer hours to plan, present, construct, and stage the pageant. Planning the event is a year round process and involves the cooperation of the City of Santa Fe and the Santa Fe Fiesta Council. Zozobra is a community event that is a tradition for many Santa Feans.
Membership Luncheons are conducted on an ongoing basis to promote a healthy working relationship between members
