The mission is to provide symptom managment and multidisciplinary care for individuals dealing with life-threatening illnesses.
In 2014 PCS trained additional volunteers to add to the pre-existing 50 volunteers already placed with clients. The training prepares volunteers to provide practical, emotional, and spiritual support for patients whose diagnosis may decrease life expectancy. The volunteers undergo a highly experiential and informational experience over two weekends in order to prepare them for their work with clients. An ongoing monthly in-service continues to educate and support the volunteers. Training expenses for the year 2014 amounted to 1500.
A total of 40 volunteers and staff provided approximately 10,000 patient service hours. Our program serves clients 24/7 and respite for family as needed. Practical support for clients may support transportation to MD visits, chemotherapy, appointments, grocery shopping, basically whatever is needed. The program provides strong advocacy services for both client and family, connecting them with other community resources they may require.
Our nurse liaison facilitates clear communication between health care providers. We can respond quickly and effectively to fulfill our patients needs. As a result we were able to serve 45 patients.
