THE QUIVERA COALITION FOSTERS RESILIENCE ON WORKING LANDS THROUGH EDUCATION, INNOVATION, AND COLLABORATION. WE WORK WITH RANCHERS, LAND MANAGERS, AND CONSERVATIONISTS IN SUPPORT OF STEWARDSHIP THAT INTEGRATES ECOLOGICAL, ECONOMIC, AND SOCIAL HEALTH.
QUIVIRA IS ENGAGED IN MULTIPLE PUBLIC EDUCATION AND OUTREACH EFFORTS. QUIVIRA CONDUCTS WORKSHOPS AND PUBLISHES A WEBSITE, JOURNALS, E-NEWSLETTERS, TECHNICAL FIELD GUIDES, AND BOOKS TO PROMOTE ITS MISSION. QUIVIRA'S ANNUAL CONFERENCE PROVIDES A FORUM FOR RANCHERS, CONSERVATIONISTS, PUBLIC LAND MANAGERS, SCIENTISTS, AND MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC TO DISCUSS RELEVANT ISSUES RELATED TO PROGRESSIVE CATTLE MANAGEMENT, LAND STEWARDSHIP, AND CLIMATE CHANGE RESILIENCE STRATEGIES.
LAND AND WATER PROGRAM - FURTHERS QUIVIRA'S MISSION THROUGH FOUR INITIATIVES: IMPROVING LAND HEALTH, BUILDING LOCAL CAPACITY, DISSEMINATING KNOWLEDGE AND INNOVATION, AND STRENGTHENING DIVERSE RELATIONSHIPS. IN THE PAST EIGHTEEN YEARS, PROGRAM ACTIVITIES HAVE INCLUDED LAND MANAGEMENT, RESTORATION PROJECTS, HANDS-ON WORKSHOPS, LAND HEALTH MONITORING, MENTORING AND INCUBATING NEW RESTORATION PRACTITIONER BUSINESSES, AND GENERAL PROMOTION OF LAND LITERACY. CURRENTLY, THE OVERARCHING GOAL OF THIS PROGRAM IS TO ENCOURAGE AND ASSIST WITH THE REGENERATION OF RIPARIAN ECOSYSTEMS AND GRASSLANDS THROUGH DEMONSTRATION PROJECTS THAT INTEGRATE ALL FOUR PROGRAM INITIATIVES. QUIVIRA ALSO PARTICIPATES IN VARIOUS COMMITTEES AND COALITIONS COMMITTED TO IMPLEMENTING LAND HEALTH PROJECTS. CARBON RANCH IS A PROGRAM TO RESEARCH, EXPLORE, AND SHARE CLIMATE STRATEGIES THAT SEQUESTER CARBON DIOXIDE IN SOIL AND PLANTS, REDUCE GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS, AND BUILD ECOLOGICAL AND ECONOMIC RESILIENCE IN LOCAL LANDSCAPES.
NEW AGRARIAN PROGRAM - CREATE APPRENTICE AND INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE NEXT GENERATION OF CONSERVATION AND AGRARIAN LEADERS. QUIVERA HAS PARTNERED WITH A NUMBER OF SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE OPERATIONS AROUND THE SOUTHWEST TO OFFER APPRENTICESHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR PEOPLE WITH A SINCERE COMMITMENT TO A LIFE AT THE INTERSECTION OF CONSERVATION AND SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE. APPRENTICES HAVE BEEN TRAINED AND GRADUATED IN THE FIELDS THAT INCLUDE SUSTAINABLE RANCHING, GRASS-BASED DAIRY AND ARTISAN CHEESEMAKING, HOLISTIC ORCHRD CARE, AND LOCALLY-SOURCED FIBER PRODUCTION.
