SFAI IS AN INDEPENDENT ARTS ORGANIZATION FORGING CRITICAL INQUIRY AND CULTURAL EXCHANGE AMONG ARTISTS, CREATIVE PRACTITIONERS, AND THE BROADER COMMUNITY. WE SUPPORT AND AMPLIFY DYNAMIC ARTISTIC PRACTICES THAT ENGAGE COMPLEX SOCIAL ISSUES, INSPIRE INDIVIDUAL TRANSFORMATION, AND INFORM COLLECTIVE ACTION.

GENERAL PROGRAMS - BRINGING TOGETHER LOCAL, NATIONAL, AND INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS AND CREATIVE PRACTITIONERS WITH ACTIVISTS, CULTURE BEARERS, CONTENT EXPERTS, AND INSTITUTIONS IN THE BROADER COMMUNITY THROUGH INTERACTIVE WORKSHOPS, PERFORMANCES, CONVERSATIONS, AND EXHIBITIONS. GENERAL PROGRAMS SERVES LOCAL ARTISTS, ARTISTS FROM AROUND THE WORLD, AND THE NORTHERN NEW MEXICO COMMUNITY. WITH OVER 29 EVENTS IN 2019, GENERAL PROGRAMS SERVED APPROXIMATELY 1,500 IN 2019.
RESIDENCY PROGRAMS: SFAI SUPPORTS RESEARCH, ARTWORKS AND CREATIVE ACTIONS THAT USE ARTISTIC IMAGINATION THROUGH OUR FREE, ANNUAL THEMATIC RESIDENCY PROGRAM, WHICH IS OPEN TO ARTISTS AND CREATIVE PRACTITIONERS OF ALL DISCIPLINES. SFAI WELCOMES APPLICATIONS ANNUALLY FROM INDIVIDUALS AND COLLABORATIONS, AS WELL AS PARENT ARTISTS. SELECTION BY A JURY IS BASED ON ARTISTIC EXCELLENCE, PROPOSAL IMPACT, APPLICANT MERIT, ENGAGEMENT WITH THE THEME, AND THE ABILITY TO RESPONSIBLY AND MEANINGFULLY ENGAGE IN A DIVERSE RESIDENCY COHORT. RESIDENCY FELLOWSHIPS ARE ALSO SEPARATELY AVAILABLE THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS WITH NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTIONS, INCLUDING THE STORY MAPS FELLOWSHIP, WHICH PARTNERS LOCAL INDIGENOUS, BLACK AND ARTISTS OF COLOR WITH NON-ARTS AGENCIES AND GOVERNMENTAL DEPARTMENTS TO ADDRESS SYSTEMIC INEQUITIES. THE RESIDENCY PROGRAMS SERVED 58 RESIDENTS DURING 2019.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, OUTREACH, AND EDUCATION - SHOWCASING THE WORK OF SOCIALLY-ENGAGED LOCAL, NATIONAL, AND INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS AND CREATIVE PRACTITIONERS, SFAI COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT DEMONSTRATES THE POWER OF ART TO SHAPE SOCIETY. THIS INCLUDES ONLINE OUTREACH AND EDUCATION FOR ALL AGES, INCLUDING BLOGS, PODCASTS, AND NEWSLETTERS; ARTIST RESOURCES AND WORKSHOPS; AND PARTNERSHIPS WITH LOCAL ADVOCACY AND GRASSROOTS INSTITUTIONS TO PROVIDE SPACE AND A PLATFORM FOR CRITICAL DIALOGUE AND CREATIVE EXCHANGE AROUND SOCIAL ISSUES. THE PROGRAM SERVED OVER 12,000 PEOPLE IN 2019.
