Organizations Filed Purposes: The Association of Tribal Archives, Libraries, and Museums is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes. It provides culturally relevant training programs and services to preserve and advance the language, history, culture, and lifeways of indigenous peoples.

Doris Duke Native Oral History Project: From 1966-1975, Doris Duke provided funding to seven universities to collect 6,500 oral histories from indigenous people in the United States. Recognizing the high value of the materials held within the collections, the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation has appointed the Association of Tribal Archives, Libraries and Museums (ATALM) to serve as the National Coordinator to work with the seven universities and Native communities to improve culturally appropriate access to the Collections, provide the originating communities with copies of all materials collected, ensure proper care of the original materials; and promote and encourage use of the Collections.

The 2019 International Conference of Indigenous Archives, Libraries, and Museums was held in Temecula, California (outside San Diego) on October 8-10, 2019. Approximately 900 individuals attended the conference with over 240 Tribes represented as well as 39 different states. Programming included hands-on preconference workshop and off-site tours to local tribal cultural sites. Main days of programming we on the 9th and 10th with over 150 sessions devoted to topics relevant to tribal archives, libraries, and museums. Note that there is an overlap between years as the conference was held in October 2019. Income is collected in one fiscal year and expended in another. A copy of the 2019 program is available at https://www.atalm.org/sites/default/files/ProgramWeb.pdf.

Culture Builds Communities Project: This project provides training and resources to assist nine Native communities in planning and designing cultural facilities. ATALM is working with planners, architects, designers, and other experts to provide professional training, resources, and consultations.
