AHHA TULSA WAS FOUNDED IN 1961 AS THE ARTS & HUMANITIES COUNCIL OF TULSA AND WAS ONE OF THE FIRST LOCAL ARTS COUNCILS IN THE NATION. THE PURPOSE OF AHHA TULSA AT FOUNDING WAS TO SUPPORT AND GROW THE ARTS AND CULTURE SECTOR IN TULSA. THE ARTS & HUMANITIES COUNCIL OF TULSA CONTINUES TODAY AS A PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION AND PROGRAM OF AHHA TULSA. THE PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO STRENGTHEN THE ARTS AND HUMANITIES SECTOR THROUGH PARTNERSHIP. SHARED SERVICES AND ADVOCACY, WITH COUNCIL AFFILIATES SERVING AS A COLLECTIVE IMPACT GROUP FOR THE SECTOR. EDUCATION PROGRAMS: THE ARTISTS IN THE SCHOOLS (AIS) PROGRAM PROVIDES STUDENTS WITH HIGH QUALITY EXPERIENCES IN THE ARTS THAT INSPIRE THEIR CREATIVITY AND CONFIDENCE, FURTHER THEIR ACADEMIC LEARNING, AND FOSTER LIFE-LONG APPRECIATION OF AND PARTICIPATION IN THE ARTS. THROUGH AIS, AHHA CONNECTS PROFESSIONAL TEACHING, PRESENTING, AND PERFORMING ARTISTS IN ALL DISCIPLINES WITH SCHOOLS THROUGH CLASSROOM PRESENTATIONS. AIS SERVES 95 SCHOOLS IN 5 DISTRICTS AND REACHES 45,000 STUDENTS ANNUALLY. FOR ONE WEEK EVERY SUMMER, AS PART OF AIS, TULSA AREA EDUCATORS ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CREATIVE CLASSROOM INSTITUTE (CCI) FREE OF CHARGE. THROUGH THIS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, TEACHERS LEARN CREATIVE TEACHING STRATEGIES TO USE IN THEIR CLASSROOMS. ANY GIVEN CHILD-TULSA, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE JOHN F. KENNEDY CENTER, IS A COLLECTIVE IMPACT PROGRAM OF 13 LOCAL ARTS PARTNERS, AND TULSA PUBLIC SCHOOLS THAT BRING ART FOCUSED FIELD TRIPS & CLASSROOM CURRICULUM TO EVERY CHILD IN TULSA PUBLIC SCHOOL GRADES K-8, AS WELL AS TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT EXPERIENCES. AHHA HARDESTY CENTER PROGRAMS: AHHA TULSA HARDESTY CENTER OFFERS CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS FOR ALL AGES, OPEN LAB HOURS, AND STUDENT CREATIVE CAMPS DURING FALL, SPRING, AND SUMMER BREAKS. THE STUDIO AT AHHA TULSA IS A FINE ARTS CENTERED MAKER SPACE THAT CAN BE UTILIZED BY VISITORS DURING ALL OPEN HOURS. EACH MONTH, THERE ARE NEW CREATIVE CHALLENGES, ACTIVITIES, TECHNIQUES, OR MATERIALS FOR VISITORS OF ALL AGES TO EXPLORE. DURING FIRST FRIDAY ART CRAWLS, AHHA WELCOMES 2,000 PLUS PATRONS TO THE AHHAHARDESTY CENTER WITH LIVE MUSIC AND PERFORMANCES PROVIDED BY AHHA TULSA COUNCIL AFFILIATES. THE FIRST FLOOR GALLERY HOSTS A CHANGING ARRAY OF CONTEMPORARY ART EXHIBITIONS CREATED BY LOCAL, REGIONAL, NATIONAL, AND INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS.
THE EXPERIENCE IS AN ARTIST-DRIVEN, LARGE-SCALE, FULLY IMMERSIVE ART INSTALLATION THAT INVITES PARTICIPANTS TO EXPLORE A FANTASTICAL, MULTIMEDIA ENVIRONMENT THROUGH SIGHT, SOUND, MOVEMENT, AND TOUCH. THIS AMBITIOUS PROJECT HAS COMPLETELY TRANSFORMED THE SECOND FLOOR OF THE AHHA HARDESTY CENTER. FIVE LOCAL LEAD ARTISTS GUIDED THE CREATIVE DIRECTION OF THE INITIAL PROJECT. THE ART ITSELF TAKES THE FORM OF FANTASTICAL MULTIMEDIA FOR GUESTS TO EXPERIENCE AND INTERACT WITH AS THEY MOVE THROUGH THE SPACE. A NEW SLATE OF SIX LOCAL ARTISTS WILL DESIGN THE SECOND ITERATION OF THE PROJECT, "THE EXPERIENCE: IMAGINE".
