PARTICIPANTS SPEND 4 HOURS PER WEEK EARNING AND CULTIVATING THEIR OWN GARDENS WHILE DEVELOPING SELF-AWARENESS, GOAL ORIENTATION, SOCIAL PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS, AND READINESS FOR CIVIC ENGAGEMENT. IN ADDITION TO GARDENING, THE PROGRAM INCORPORATES PEACE EDUCATION, JOURNALING, COOKING, CREATIVE ACTIVITIES AND COMMUNITY-FOCUSED PROJECTS.
DURING SCHOOL PROGRAM - GLOBAL GARDENS' DURING-SCHOOL PROGRAM SERVES APPROXIMATELY 1800 STUDENTS AT THREE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS IN TULSA. GLOBAL GARDENS EDUCATORS MEET WEEKLY WITH K-5 CLASSES TO FACILITATE A DYNAMIC, SCIENCE-BASED GARDENING CURRICULUM THAT INCLUDES HANDS-ON GARDENING AND GARDEN-INSPIRED PROJECTS. THE PROGRAM SUPPORTS STATE SCIENCE STANDARDS, PROMOTES TEAMWORK AND PROBLEM SOLVING, AND INSPIRES MOTIVATION FOR LEARNING. IT ALSO PROVIDES STUDENTS WITH SEED-TO-PLATE EXPERIENCES THAT FOSTER POSITIVE ATTITUDES TOWARD FRUITS AND VEGETABLES.
GLOBAL GARDENS ALLIANCE - GLOBAL GARDENS' ALLIANCE PROGRAMS SERVE 400 STUDENTS IN GRADES PREK-5 AT 7 TULSA SITES. THROUGH THE ALLIANCE, GLOBAL GARDENS OFFERS BLOSSOM PROGRAMS, BUD PROGRAMS, AND SUMMER CAMPS. IN BLOSSOM PROGRAMS, GARDEN EDUCATORS PROVIDE 1-4 HOURS OF GARDEN-BASED LESSONS PER WEEK FOR SELECT GROUPS OF STUDENTS, EITHER DURING THE SCHOOL DAY OR AFTER SCHOOL. IN BUD PROGRAMS, GARDEN EDUCATORS PROVIDE 8 HOURS PER MONTH OF CONSULTATION, SUPPORT, AND RESOURCES FOR CLASSROOM TEACHERS, TO HELP THEM USE THE GARDEN AS A TEACHING TOOL. IN WEEKLONG SUMMER CAMPS, GARDEN EDUCATORS PROVIDE 20 HOURS OF PROGRAMMING TO STUDENTS IN GRADES K-6. ALL ALLIANCE PROGRAMS COMBINE STEM AND SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL LEARNING IN THE GARDEN SETTING TO PROMOTE STUDENTS' NUTRITIONAL HEALTH, LEARNING ENGAGEMENT, AND 21ST CENTURY SKILLS.
