TARC IS COMMITTED TO ENSURING A HIGH QUALITY OF LIFE FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES AND THEIR FAMILIES THROUGH EDUCATION, EMPOWERMENT, SUPPORT AND ADVOCACY.
OK AIM PROGRAM RECRUITED, TRAINED AND SUPPORTED VOLUNTEERS TO VISIT STATE-FUNDED RESIDENCES OPERATED BY PRIVATE PROVIDER ORGANIZATIONS WHERE ADULTS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES LIVED TO EVALUATE THE SAFETY, LIVING CONDITIONS AND QUALITY OF LIFE PROVIDED. FINDINGS WERE REPORTED TO THE STATE SO THAT CONCERNS IDENTIFIED COULD BE REMEDIATED AND THE SERVICE DELIVERY AND QUALITY OF LIFE OF THESE INDIVIDUALS IMPROVED. THE PROGRAM'S VOLUNTEERS VISITED 939 PEOPLE IN 2018.
FAMILY SUPPORT PROGRAM PROVIDED ONE-ON-ONE EDUCATION, SUPPORT GROUPS, AND ADVOCACY FOR FAMILIES THAT HAVE CHILDREN WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITES TO IMPROVE THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE. IN 2018, PROGRAM STAFF ASSISTED 912 FAMILIES TO OBTAIN NEEDED SERVICES, PROVIDED SPECIAL EDUCATION ADVOCACY FOR 313 CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS TO HAVE A MORE APPROPRIATE EDUCATION, HELPED 149 PARENTS FEEL SUPPORTED AND LESS ISOLATED THROUGH PARENT SUPPORT GROUPS, AND ASSISTED 59 CHILDREN ON THE AUTISM SPECTRUM INCREASE THEIR SOCIAL SKILLS THROUGH SUPPORT GROUPS.
SELF-ADVOCACY PROVIDED ADULTS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES LIFE TOOLS THEY NEED TO SPEAK AND ACT ON THEIR OWN BEHALF. LOCAL GROUPS OF SELF-ADVOCATES WORKED TOGETHER TO LEARN ABOUT TAKING CHARGE OF THEIR LIVES, FIGHTING DISCRIMINATION, MAKING DECISIONS AND CHOICES, AND BECOMING MORE INDEPENDENT. ADULTS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILTIES WERE ALSO ASSISTED IN OBTAINING NEEDED SERVICES AND INDIVIDUAL ADVOCACY NEEDS. IN 2018, 602 SELF-ADVOCATES INCREASED THEIR ADVOCACY AND INDEPENDENT LIVING SKILLS THROUGH TULSA PEOPLE FIRST AND BROKEN ARROW PEOPLE FIRST, 274 ADULTS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES WERE LESS ISOLATED BY PARTICIPATING IN THE DAYMAKERS GROUP, AND 64 ADULTS WERE CONNECTED TO NEEDED SERVICES.
