THE TULSA FOUNDATION FOR ARCHITECTURES MISSION IS TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ABOUT THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT; PROMOTE PRESERVATION OF AND INVESTMENT IN SIGNIFICANT ARCHITECT; CONSERVE HISTORIC ARCHITECTURAL MATERIALS AND ADVOCATE FOR QUALITY DEVELOPMENT THAT ENHANCES TULSA.
TFAS TOURS PROGRAM CONTINUED TO THRIVE, WITH 1,392 PEOPLE ATTENDING EXPLORE DOWNTOWN TULSA AND OTHER PRIVATE TOURS TO TEACH ARCHITECTURE, HISTORY AND CIVIC PRIDE TO TULSANS AND VISITORS. MONTHLY SECOND SATURDAY TOURS CONTINUED TO BE EXTREMELY POPULAR, WITH APPROXIMATELY 150 ATTENDEES EACH MONTH AND SEVERAL BRAND-NEW TOURS ADDED IN 2019, AND THE TULSA UNDERGROUND TUNNEL TOURS GROWING TO 24 GROUPS OF 35 PEOPLE EACH. IN ADDITION, WE PRODUCED OUR DWELL IN THE IDL DOWNTOWN LIVING TOUR, SHOWCASING ADAPTIVE REUSE OF HISTORIC BUILDINGS, AND A MEMBERS OPEN HOUSE EVENT HIGHLIGHTING CREATIVE NEW CONSTRUCTION. IN TOTAL, 4,577 PEOPLE CAME TO OUR 2019 SECOND SATURDAYS AND OPEN HOUSES; MORE THAN 100 VOLUNTEERS PARTICIPATED, INCLUDING A DOZEN TOUR GUIDES.
TFAS ARCHITECTURAL ARCHIVES CONTINUE TO BE OUR GREATEST ASSET, WITH OVER 1,000 SETS OF DRAWINGS AND ARTIFACTS FROM A VARIETY OF BUILDINGS AND SITES IN THE TULSA AREA. OUR MAJOR COLLECTIONS INCLUDE MATERIALS FROM RENOWNED ARCHITECTS, INCLUDING THE ORIGINAL HAND-DRAWN DESIGNS OF JOSEPH KOBERLING, JOHN DUNCAN FORSYTH AND LEON SENTER. WE HAVE OVER 1,000 SETS OF ORIGINAL HAND-DRAWN DRAWINGS, BLUEPRINTS AND ARTIFACTS WHICH CAN BE UTILIZED FOR RESEARCH.
TFAS BOOK SALES ENHANCE TULSAS ARCHITECTURAL AWARENESS. WE CONTINUE TO MARKET AND DISTRIBUTE OUR PUBLICATION, TULSA ART DECO, AS WELL AS THE LAMINATED COMPANION, DECOGUIDE, THROUGH LOCAL BOOKSTORES AND MUSEUM SHOPS, AND OUR ENHANCED WEBSITE TFA STORE ON OUR NEW WEBSITE. TFA DISTRIBUTES AND PROMOTES THE BOOKS OF JOHN BROOKS WALTON, INCLUDING ONE HUNDRED HISTORIC TULSA HOMES; IN 2017 WE ADDED GEORGE KRAVISS NEW BOOK, 100 DESIGNS FOR A MODERN WORLD.
