LOCALLY, FAMILIES MAKE APPLICATION TO THE HABITAT HOMEOWNERSHIP PROGRAM. ONCE ACCEPTED, FAMILIES COMPLETE AN EDUCATION PROGRAM INCLUDING MONEY MANAGEMENT TRAINING, HOMEOWNERSHIP PREPARATION WORKSHOPS, AND CONSTRUCTION TRAINING INCLUDING HANDS-ON EXPERIENCES BUILDING COMPONENTS USED IN HABITAT HOMES. FAMILIES EITHER HELP IN BUILDING THEIR NEW HOMES WITH HABITAT OR PURCHASE A REACQUIRED/REMODELED HABITAT HOUSE. FAMILIES REPAY ZERO-INTEREST, NO-PROFIT MORTGAGES HELD BY HABITAT. PRINCIPAL FROM MORTGAGES GOES BACK INTO HELPING HABITAT SERVE MORE FAMILIES, PROVIDE MORE HOME OWNERSHIP SOLUTIONS, AND BUILDING FUTURE HOMES.
