Ayuda Legal Puerto Rico promotes access to justice and the defense of fundamental rights through legal education, the development of civic capacities and legal support to low and moderate income persons and communities.
Ayuda Legal Puerto Rico celebrated 137 workshops and activities directed to legal education and support of low to medium income families around Puerto Rico. 1985 individuals were impacted by these free legal help initiatives. We published several know your rights materials on issues such as housing, disaster recovery, family and elders law, as well as materials on gender violence. These materials were published in ayudalegalpr.org, a free legal education portal that welcomed nearly 1.4 million unique users in 2019. We were able to impact administrative policy in regards to disaster recovery, including guidelines regarding housing assistance with CDBG-DR funds. A helpline via chat and phone was inaugurated, amplifying the opportunity to provide free legal assistance to people in need, particularly disaster survivors.
