Dedicated to service in sustainability and the arts that provides people with the skills and knowledge needed to encourage inner growth and to live in harmony with themselves, each other, and the natural world. The core activity is experiential learning in sustainability through service to others.
Bioconstruction & Sustainable Shelter: Bioconstruction design, education and training was a major focus in 2020, continuing to work to increase access to affordable, resistant and environmental housing options in PR. In order to train the next generation of design professionals, Plenitud PR hosted 2 bioconstruction design internships impacting 12 young architects and engineers in PR. The design interns prepared architectural and structural blueprints for several models of SuperAdobe dome and vault homes of diverse sizes. Additionally, virtual conferences and workshop series impacted over 90 young building professionals. A total of 6 local builders received additional training in the SuperAdobe building technique while helping to construct a prototype model home on site. A partnership with University of PR engineers was developed in order to launch structural analysis of Superadobe.
Agriculture & Youth Development: Partnership with (4) allied public schools maintained and further developed, resulting in the installation of school gardens and garden-based education through workshops and curriculum. All youth development programs pivoted to remote-learning in March 2020, emphasizing the development of free educational videos and weekly curriculum lessons for at-home gardening and art projects, impacting over 150 families. Pre-made art and garden kits were delivered to schools for children to apply learning at home. 27 beginning farmers impacted in 20-part intensive workshop series in collaboration with Josco Bravo; 3 mentees received extensive leadership training for 6 months. Educational "Live" events offered in agriculture techniques based on the organization's recently published agriculture manual, Siembra Boricua, and turned into 80 freely accessible YouTube videos. Thousands of attendee's tuned into numerous virtual farm tours and agriculture workshops in agroecology offered with partnership organizations such as Para la Naturaleza and attended by over a thousand individuals.
Service Learning & Sustainable Skills Training: Local community members as well as groups of university students from the US impacted through workshop series and immersive internships focused on sustainability skills and community service projects. Over 150 local farmers and community members impacted through rainwater harvesting and design workshops and 83 participants from 6 different universities impacted through week-long immersive internships, accomplishing over 2,000 hours of community service in collaboration with local community partners. Six additional university groups cancelled due to COVID and earthquakes in PR.
