PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT TO TEENAGERS THEIR PARENTS FAMILIES AND RELATIVES

DFC Project: This project is subsidized by Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Is a five years prevention iniciative thas is beeing implemented by the Coaclicion de Prevencion y Accion Naranjitena (COPAN) and Programa del Adolescente de Naranjito (PANI). This initiative implements enviromental strategies to prevent alcohol and and prescripted drugs comsuption by minors. Young people have easy access to both substances as they adquire them from free or at a low cost by relatives, friends or acquaintances.

Legislative for Community Impact: Legislative funds are used to extend the service of Siembra project, brinding the opportunity to impact a larger population with individuals psychological therapy and social workers services, to develop workshops for the schools and the commu- nity, to make intervations in emergency situations of children and adolescents during school hours, to bring workshop to the school per- sonnel and govermental agencies, and to visit the homes of the parti- cipants when needed. We also bring tutoring services to those children and adolescents that need help to do their school work, assigments and concepts reviews for improving their achivement.

SAVE THE CHILDREN - project addresses the psychological services needs of children, adolescents between ages - 19 and their families to pre- vent the mental health problems that our young people is confronting. This project applies the Cognitive-Behavioral Theory, which is based on the interrelation of thoughts, actions and feelings. It also uses the ecological model of Bronfenbrenner, whose basis pospulate proposes that human development involves the progressive mutual accomodation between an active human being, which is in the precess of development. We bring psychological and social work services, workshops, talks and counseling to the population of Naranjito and bordering towns (Bayamon Barranquitas, Comerio, Corozal and Toa Alta).
