Project Name: Special Education Services Coordinators, funded by the local Department of Education, these special education services coordinators facilitate the transition of children with disabilities served by the Early Intervention Program of the Department of Health, who are potentially eligible to special education services from the local Department of Education. From October 2018 to September 2019 through this project APNI coordinated transition services for children with disabilities. As part of this project, we offered workshops on Law and procedures of special education services. On these workshops we impacted 7,634 families and professionals.
Project name: Parent Training and Information Center (PTI) trainers provided orientation, support and training services to parents of children with disabilities and the professionals that intervene with them via telephone, in-house visits, mail and emails, impacting 9,247 families and professionals within the special education field. The PTI offered 87 workshops to 2,147 participants throughout the island of Puerto Rico on various topics such as special education laws and processes, effective communication between parents and school personnel, communication and collaboration, the IEP process, transition from school to adulthood (for parents), transition from school to life (for students), statewide assessment, bullying and violence prevention, effective intervention with children diagnosed with ADD, from October 1, 2018 to September 30, 2019.
Project name: "Supporting families with or at risk of congenital ZIKV infection". The purpose of this project is to empower families of children with or at risk of congenital ZIKV infection. Our priority is for families to acquire the knowledge and skills that allow them to feel confident and competent when relating or selecting health service providers for their children. Families will receive the support and information necessary to ensure that they have an active participation in decision makings about their children's health care. Through this project, parents and professionals will be trained in order to promote the active participation of families in all health processes. The project impact 6,223 parents and professionals through workshops, one to one attendance, emails and phone calls from October 2018 to September 2019.
