CHARLESTON HABITAT FOR HUMANITY, INC. (CHFH) WAS FOUNDED IN 1989, AN APPROVED AFFILIATE FOR HABITAT FOR HUMANITY INTERNATIONAL (HFHI). CHFH BUILDS NEW HOMES FOR FIRST TIME HOMEBUYERS, WORKING FAMILIES, AND FAMILIES EARNING BETWEEN 35% AND 60% OF THE AREA MEDIAN FAMILY INCOME (UP TO 80% FOR VETERANS). THE HOMES ARE BUILT BY CHFH'S CONSTRUCTION CREW AND HUNDREDS OF VOLUNTEERS. THE MORTGAGES VARY IN LENGTH BETWEEN 20 AND 30 YEARS AND CARRY ZERO PERCENT INTEREST. SINCE 1989, CHFH HAS BUILT 92 HOMES FOR WORKING FAMILIES IN THE CITIES OF CHARLESTON AND NORTH CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA. BEGINNING IN 2009, CHFH BEGAN A HOME REPAIR PROGRAM TO COMPLIMENT THE NEW HOME CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM. CHFH HAS COMPLETED 23 REPAIR PROJECTS TO DATE.
CHARLESTON HABITAT FOR HUMANITY PROVIDES AFFORDABLE HOME OWNERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR WORKING FAMILIES OF MODERATE INCOME IN THE CITIES OF CHARLESTON AND NORTH CHARLESTON. SINCE ITS ESTABLISHMENT IN 1989, CHARLESTON HABITAT FOR HUMANITY HAS BUILT 92 NEW HOMES, COMPLETED 23 MAJOR RENOVATIONS AND REPAIRS, AND CHANGED THE LIVES OF MORE THAN 600 CHARLESTON COMMUNITY MEMBERS. IN ADDITION TO PROVIDING DOMESTIC HOUSING SOLUTIONS, CHARLESTON HABITAT FOR HUMANITY SUPPORTS ONGOING CONSTRUCTION EFFORTS IN HONDURAS. FORTY-SEVEN HOMES IN LA CEIBA, HONDURAS HAVE BEEN BUILT THANKS TO TITHES FROM CHARLESTON HABITAT FOR HUMANITY TO THE INTERNATIONAL MISSION. HERE ARE SOME OF OUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS FOR AND AT THE YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2020: - THREE (3) NEW HOMES COMPLETED, BRINGING AFFILIATE TOTAL TO 92 NEW HOMES TOTAL SINCE 1989 - THIRTY-FOUR (34) ACTIVE CHARLESTON HABITAT FOR HUMANITY MORTGAGES - OVER 1,300 VOLUNTEERS PROVIDED ROUGHLY 10,096 HOURS OF VOLUNTEER ASSISTANCE VIA CONSTRUCTION, RESTORE AND OFFICE PROJECTS - FOUR (4) PARTNER FAMILIES COMPLETED A TOTAL OF 616 SWEAT EQUITY HOURS - COMPLETED TWO CRITICAL HOME REPAIRS, INCLUDING ONE FOR A DISABLED VETERAN FAMILY - 59 VOLUNTEERS FROM 5 COLLEGES ACROSS 3 STATES PARTICIPATED IN COLLEGIATE CHALLENGE/ALTERNATE SPRING BREAK FOR A TOTAL OF 19 DAYS OR 1,946 HOURS OF CONSTRUCTION - RAISED A TOTAL OF 130,260 FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING AT THE 5TH ANNUAL BUILDER BASH & 2ND ANNUAL OYSTER ROAST EVENTS - SELECTED BY SEVERAL LOCAL COMMUNITY EVENTS AS A BENEFICIARY PARTNER, SUCH AS THE TURKEY DAY FUN RUN
