Organizations Filed Purposes: THE MISSION OF THE CHARLESTON SCHOOL OF LAW FOUNDATION INC IS TO ENCOURAGE AND ASSIST THE STUDY, TEACHING, PROMOTING AND RESEARCH OF THE RULE OF LAW IN CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA AND ALL RELATED SUBJECT AREAS AS DETERMINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS.

THE CHARLESTON SCHOOL OF LAW FOUNDATION INC. WORKS DIRECTLY WITH THE CHARLESTON SCHOOL OF LAW TO SUPPORT ITS HIGH-QUALITY LEGAL TRAINING AND TO INSTILL A SENSE AND COMMITMENT OF PUBLIC SERVICE IN STUDENTS. TO THIS END, THE FOUNDATION HAS SOLICITED AND RECEIVED GIFTS FOR SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS TO RECRUIT AND RETAIN TALENTED STUDENTS; HAS CREATED SPECIAL FUNDS TO SUPPORT STUDENT ACTIVITIES SUCH AS THE ADVOCATES FUND FOR MOOT COURT AND MOCK TRAIL TRAINING; SUPPORTS COLLABORATIONS WITH OTHER SCHOOLS SUCH AS THE ANNUAL LAW & SOCIETY SYMPOSIUM WITH FURMAN UNIVERSITY'S THE RILEY INSTITUTE AND CO-SPONSORSHIP WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA LAW SCHOOL OF THE ANNUAL PALMETTO STATE CLASSIC TRIAL COMPETITION; ENCOURAGES NEW STUDENT COMMUNITY ENDEAVORS LIKE THE ENVIRONMENTAL LAW SUMMIT; CREATES SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS WITH THE STUDENT BAR ASSOCIATION AND FAMILIES IN MEMORY OF STUDENTS WHO HAVE DIED SUCH AS THE KEITH J. WILLIAMS FUND; AND SEEKS TO RETAIN STRONG STUDENTS WHO STRUGGLE FINANCIALLY.

THE FOUNDATION CREATED THE ADVOCATES FUND TO SUPPORT OUR SUCCESSFUL MOOT COURT, MOCK TRIAL AND CHARLESTON LAW REVIEW PROJECTS, AND TO ENCOURAGE AND FUND STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN ADDITIONAL COMPETITIONS. THE FOUNDATION WORKS CLOSELY WITH THE SCHOOL'S ALUMNI TO INVOLVE GRADUATES IN COMMUNITY AND SCHOOL EFFORTS TO EXPAND CAREER AND WORK OPPORTUNITIES SUCH AS INVOLVING STUDENTS IN VARIOUS WORK FAIRS AND CONFERENCES REGIONALLY AND NATIONALLY. THE SOL BLATT JR. LAW LIBRARY IS AN OUTSTANDING RESOURCE TO ALL OUR COMMUNITIES. THE FOUNDATION HAS ESTABLISHED A BOARD DESIGNATED FUND TO SUPPORT THE NEEDS OF THE LIBRARY UNIQUE TO ITS GROWTH AND SEPARATE FROM ITS SCHOOL OPERATED BUDGET. CELEBRATING JUDGE SOL BLATT JR. AND HIS CONTRIBUTION TO OUR COMMUNITY, WE FUND FIVE LIBRARY FELLOWS ANNUALLY WITH FELLOWSHIPS.

THE FOUNDATION RECOGNIZES ITS PLACE AS A LEADER IN THE CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA AND REGIONAL COMMUNITIES. OUR MISSION INCLUDES PARTICIPATING WITH COMMUNITY PROGRAMS THAT DIRECTLY RESPOND TO OUR MISSION TO SUPPORT HIGH-LEVEL LEGAL EDUCATION AND INCREASED CURRENT KNOWLEDGE OF THE LAW. THE FOUNDATION COLLABORATED WITH THE CHARLESTON LAW REVIEW AND THE RILEY INSTITUTE AT FURMAN TO SUPPORT THEIR ANNUAL SYMPOSIUM, THIS YEAR ENTITLED "THE SECOND AMENDMENT: 225 YEARS LATER. AND AS STUDENTS CREATE NEW WAYS TO ENGAGE THE COMMUNITY, THE FOUNDATION SUPPORTS STUDENTS TO REALIZE THEIR PLANS, SUCH AS STARTING THE ENVIRONMENTAL LAW SUMMIT.
