Organizations Filed Purposes: FOUNDED AS A PRESBYTERIAN MINISTRY IN 1875, TODAY THORNWELL PROVIDES A FULL CONTINUUM OF CARE OFFERING HOPE, HEALING, AND WHOLENESS TO CHILDREN IN NEED AND THEIR FAMILIES IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST. MORE THAN 3,349 CHILDREN AND FAMILIES FROM FL, GA, AND SC, WERE SERVED DURING 2019 THROUGH THORNWELL'S RESIDENTIAL AND COMMUNITY-BASED PROGRAMS AND SERVICES.

THORNWELL SERVES CHILDREN AND FAMILIES THROUGH A VARIETY OF RESIDENTIAL AND COMMUNITY-BASED PROGRAMS AND SERVICES ACROSS GEORGIA, FLORIDA, AND SOUTH CAROLINA.

RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM: 100 CHILDREN BETWEEN THE AGES OF BIRTH AND 22 WERE PROVIDED WITH FAMILY-LIKE HOMES IN 2019. FOR 144 YEARS, THORNWELL HAS BEEN A SAFE AND WELCOMING PLACE FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH WHOSE LIVES HAVE BEEN SHATTERED BY ABUSE, NEGLECT, DISPLACEMENT, AND ABANDONMENT. OTHERS COME FROM FAMILIES IN CRISIS SUCH AS THE SERIOUS ILLNESS OR DEATH OF A PARENT OR GRANDPARENT, PARENTAL DRUG OR ALCOHOL ADDICTION, FAMILY HOMELESSNESS - ANY SITUATION THAT THREATENS THE CHILD'S SAFETY AND/OR FAMILY STABILITY. THORNWELL USES THE EVIDENCE-BASED TEACHING-FAMILY MODEL OF CARE TO HELP OUR YOUNG PEOPLE LEARN THE SOCIAL AND INDEPENDENT LIVING SKILLS THEY WILL NEED TO BREAK THE CYCLE OF POVERTY, ABUSE, NEGLECT, DRUG ABUSE, DYSFUNCTION, OR HOMELESSNESS THAT HAVE BEEN A BARRIER TO HEALTHY ADULT AND FAMILY FUNCTIONING. CHILDREN LIVING ON THE THORNWELL CAMPUS ARE PROVIDED WITH LOVING CHRISTIAN HOMES, NUTRITIOUS MEALS, CLOTHING, EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT, MEDICAL AND DENTAL CARE, AND MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING (ALL 100 CHILDREN RECEIVED COUNSELING SERVICES IN 2019) TO HELP THEM HEAL FROM THE TRAUMAS THEY HAVE EXPERIENCED. THE RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM ALSO INCLUDES A YOUNG MOTHER'S PROGRAM WHICH PROVIDES A LOVING HOME FOR TEEN MOMS AND THEIR CHILDREN AS WELL AS AN INDEPENDENT LIVING PROGRAM FOR YOUTH WHO HAVE GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL AND ARE WORKING AND/OR ENROLLED IN COLLEGE, TECHNICAL SCHOOLS, OR JOB TRAINING PROGRAMS.

EDUCATIONAL SERVICES - THORNWELL LEARNING CENTER: 100 CHILDREN RECEIVED EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT SERVICES IN 2019, WITH 42 CHILDREN SERVED IN OUR SUMMER PROGRAM, MOMENTUM. THE LEARNING CENTER IS OPEN ALL YEAR TO PROVIDE OUTSTANDING ACADEMIC SUPPORT FROM 5 YEAR-OLD KINDERGARTEN TO 12TH GRADE. STAFFED BY CERTIFIED TEACHERS AND QUALIFIED TUTORS, CHILDREN AND YOUTH CAN GET ASSISTANCE IN PREPARING FOR EACH SCHOOL DAY, IMPROVE THEIR READING AND MATH SKILLS, AND RECEIVE TUTORING IN A VARIETY OF SUBJECT AREAS. THORNWELL STUDENTS DEMONSTRATE MARKED ACADEMIC GAINS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AND RETAIN AND EVEN IMPROVE THEIR ACADEMIC SKILLS OVER THE SUMMER. THE SUMMER PROGRAM, MOMENTUM, SERVES TO CONTINUE THESE ACADEMIC GAINS THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER WHILE ENJOYING A BREAK FROM THE TRADITIONAL CLASSROOM. THE THORNWELL CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER SERVED AN ADDITIONAL 153 AT-RISK CHILDREN THROUGH A THREE AND FOUR YEAR-OLD KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM PROVIDING A STRONG FOUNDATION FOR THEIR EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT.
