Organizations Filed Purposes:
In the spirit of Service, Not Self, the mission of the American Legion Auxiliary is to support The American Legion and to honor the sacrifice of those who serve by enhancing the lives of our veterans, military, and their families, both at home and abroad. For God and Country, we advocate for veterans, educate our citizens, mentor youth, and promote patriotism, good citizenship, peace and security.
Palmetto Girls State is a one-week leadership and citizenship training program, created to educate outstanding high school students about state and local government and citizenship. Girls attending Palmetto Girls State experience governmental procedure by simulating political campaigns, elections, and the political process. They also learn about the principles of citizenship and public service from guest speakers, expert panels and staff members.
Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation services include support and financial assistance for veterans and their families through:Poppy Program- which raises funds through the distribution of the symbolic red poppies to support active-duty military, veterans, and their families.Special Rehabilitation Fund- which all SC ALA Units provide funds for and donated annually to The American Legion to benefit veteransChristmas Gift Shops- at the VA Hospitals where gifts are purchased for and then distributed to the VA Hospital patients
Conference and Conventions- We hold an annual Convention in Spring and Conference in Fall for the Dept of SC. We also attend our annual National Convention. The annual Conventions are the legislative body of the American Legion Auxiliary. The convention is called for the purpose of electing officers for the ensuing year, amending the Constitution & Bylaws, receiving reports of officers and committees, and for the transaction of such other business as my be brought before it.
