The mission of Smokefree SC is to support and amplify the work of tobacco prevention and control stakeholders throughout South Carolina.
The organization's main program consists of various efforts to reduce the harm caused by smoking and tobacco use of the citizens of SC. These efforts consist of providing education, training and technical assistance to the general public, partners and grantees through and annual summit, webinars, website resources and grants for Point of Sale activities. Through our Point of Sales statewise project, 45 of the 46 counties in SC conducted in-store assessments on tobacco products for sale, price points and marketing techniques. Tobaccos retailers were mapped to assess how many existed by zip codes and proximity to schools and parks. These assessments allow local coalitions and community groups to formulate policy solutions, raise community awareness and engage decision makers in implementing and enforcing local statutes on tobacco use and sales.
