DFW EMPOWERS WOMEN LIVING IN EXTREME POVERTY BY FUNDING PROGRAMS FOSTERING GOOD HEALTH, EDUCATION AND ECONOMIC SELF-SUFFICIENCY AND CULTIVATES EDUCATIONAL DINNER CIRCLES INSPIRING INDIVIDUALS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE THROUGH THE POWER OF COLLECTIVE GIVING. THROUGH THE FOLLOWING PROGRAMS DFW EDUCATED OVER 9,000 WOMEN. 2019 PROJECTS INCLUDED: VENTURE STRATEGIES FOR HEALTH AND DEVELOPMENT: SAFE SPACE CLUBS WILL TRANSFORM THE LIVES OF VULNERABLE, ISOLATED ADOLESCENT GIRLS IN RURAL NIGER, DRAMATICALLY IMPROVING EDUCATION OUTCOMES AND DELAYING MARRIAGE AND CHILDBEARING. MAJI SAFI GROUP: THIS PROJECT AIMS TO REDUCE THE STIGMA ASSOCIATED WITH MENSTRUAL HYGIENE MANAGEMENT (MHM), DECREASE SCHOOL ABSENCE RATES RELATED TO MENSTRUATION, INCREASE ACCESS TO SUSTAINABLE MENSTRUAL CUPS, AND DEVELOP THE SELF-CONFIDENCE OF YOUNG WOMEN IN RURAL TANZANIA. TEN CHARITIES/HER FUTURE COALITION: BY EXPANDING AND SUPPORTING THREE RED LIGHT AREA RESOURCE CENTERS IN CALCUTTA,THIS PROJECT WILL PROVIDE JOB TRAINING, EMPLOYMENT, COUNSELING, AND INFORMAL EDUCATION FOR WOMEN WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED HUMAN TRAFFICKING AND GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE. IT WILL ALSO PROVIDE EDUCATION, COUNSELING, SAFE SPACES, AND THERAPEUTIC ARTS FOR THESE WOMENS CHILDREN. MINDLEAPS: THIS HIGHLY POPULAR DANCE PROGRAM IN MAURITANIA DRAWS GIRLS OFF THE STREETS AND AWAY FROM RISKS SUCH AS PROSTITUTION. AS THE GIRLS COME TO THE SAFE SPACE TO ATTEND DANCE WORKSHOPS, THEY WILL ALSO RECEIVE REMEDIAL EDUCATION, PSYCHOSOCIAL COUNSELING, AND NUTRITIONAL SUPPORT. RAZIA'S RAY OF HOPE FOUNDATION: THIS PROJECT IN AFGHANISTAN WILL TRAIN YOUNG, TALENTED STUDENTS IN NEED TO BECOME MIDWIVES, WHICH WILL ALLOW THEM TO PROVIDE ESSENTIAL HEALTHCARE SERVICES AND EDUCATION THAT WILL POSITIVELY IMPACT MATERNAL AND INFANT HEALTH OUTCOMES. KAKENYA'S DREAM: THROUGH THE HEALTH AND LEADERSHIP TRAINING PROGRAM, YOUNG MAASAI GIRLS WHO ARE AT RISK FOR FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION/CUTTING (FGM/C) AND EARLY MARRIAGE WILL BE EMPOWERED TO STAY IN SCHOOL AND LEARN ABOUT SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH, CHILD RIGHTS, AND LIFE AND LEADERSHIP SKILLS. IQRA FUND: THIS PROJECT ESTABLISHES A GIRLS MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAM IN PAKISTANS ISOLATED BASHA VALLEY BY FUNDING TEACHERS, PROVIDING UNIFORMS, BOOKS AND SUPPLIES FOR THE GIRLS, AND ENGAGING THE MOTHERS IN LEADERSHIP WORKSHOPS. BRICK BY BRICK PARTNERS: BY PROVIDING TRANSPORTATION FOR LABORING WOMEN IN UGANDA TO ACCESS HEALTH FACILITIES AND EMERGENCY OBSTETRIC CARE, THE MAMA RESCUE PROJECT REDUCES MAJOR OBSTETRIC COMPLICATIONS, WHICH ARE SIGNIFICANT CAUSES OF MATERNAL AND NEWBORN MORBIDITY AND MORTALITY. EDU-GIRLS INC: THIS PROJECT IN INDIA PREPARES GIRLS FOR A TECHNOLOGY-DRIVEN JOB MARKET BY DEVELOPING INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT) SKILLS AND INTEGRATING TECHNOLOGY INTO SCHOOL LESSON PLANS. STREET CHILD US: THE BREAKING THE BONDS PROJECT IN NEPAL HELPS ADOLESCENT GIRLS IN REMOTE AREAS ACHIEVE FUNCTIONAL LITERACY AND NUMERACY, MAKE SUSTAINABLE TRANSITIONS INTO MEANINGFUL EMPLOYMENT, AND DEVELOP CONFIDENCE AND AWARENESS OF THEIR RIGHTS IN ORDER TO REDUCE PREJUDICE AND SEXUAL VIOLENCE. YOUNG HEROES FOUNDATION: THIS PROJECT IN SWAZILAND ALLEVIATES POVERTY BY HELPING FEMALE CAREGIVERS (OFTEN GRANDMOTHERS)OF ORPHANS AND VULNERABLE CHILDREN TO BECOME FINANCIALLY LITERATE, AND BY CREATING THE OPPORTUNITY FOR THEM TO BECOME MICRO ENTREPRENEURS. JACARANDA HEALTH: SUPER-NURSES FOR MATERNAL HEALTH IS KENYAS FIRST NURSE MENTOR TRAINING CENTER. THE CENTER TRAINS TOP NURSES FROM KENYAS PUBLIC HOSPITALS TO MENTOR HUNDREDS OF PEER NURSES AND SUSTAINABLY IMPROVE MATERNAL OUTCOMES FOR MOTHERS AND BABIES. INTEGRATE HEALTH: RECRUIT, TRAIN, AND EQUIP FEMALE COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKERS IN TOGO TO PROVIDE REPRODUCTIVE, MATERNAL, NEWBORN, AND CHILD HEALTH SERVICES, RESULTING IN FEWER DEATHS.
