THE MISSION OF THE FOOD BANK OF GREENWOOD COUNTY IS TO REDUCE HUNGER THROUGH COMMUNITY COOPERATION, EFFECTIVELY DISTRIBUTING DONATED GROCERY PRODUCTS AND PERISHABLE FOODS, AND MAKING THE BEST POSSIBLE USE OF ALL AVAILABLE RESOURCES.
THE FOOD BANK OF GREENWOOD COUNTY UTILIZES VARIOUS OPPORTUNITIES TO ADDRESS FOOD INSECURITY. -EMERGENCY FOOD PANTRY: DEPENDING UPON AVAILABILITY, PARTICIPANTS IN THIS PROGRAM CAN RECEIVE MEAT, MILK, EGGS, BREAD, PASTRIES, DRY GOODS, AND CANNED GOODS. PARTICIPANTS IN THIS PROGRAM MUST QUALIFY BY MEETING THE INCOME LEVEL REQUIREMENTS. -SOWING SEEDS PROGRAM: THIS PROGRAM ALLOWS CLIENTS TO INVEST A SMALL AMOUNT OF MONEY TO RECEIVE FOOD ESSENTIALS SUCH AS MILK, EGGS, BREAD, AND CANNED GOODS TO HELP THEM REMAIN HEALTHY DURING EVEN THE TOUGHEST OF TIMES. CLIENTS IN THIS PROGRAM MUST MEET CERTAIN INCOME GUIDELINES. -SENIOR BOXES: COMMODITY BOXES ARE DISTRIBUTED MONTHLY TO QUALIFYING SENIORS 60+ YEARS OF AGE. -MOBILE SITES: THE FOOD BANK TRAVELS TO DIFFERENT SITES IN GREENWOOD COUNTY EACH MONTH TO DISTRIBUTE FOOD TO THOSE WHO QUALIFY. -WEEKEND BACKPACK PROGRAM: FOOD PACKS STOCKED WITH KID-FRIENDLY AND NUTRITIOUS FOOD ARE DISTRIBUTED IN A DISCREET MANNER ON FRIDAYS TO CHILDREN AT RISK OF WEEKEND HUNGER.
