Organizations Filed Purposes:
Support children with diabetes in South Carolina through diabetes camping opportunites, school support programs, and partnerships with other agencies with the goal to engage, encourage, empower, and inspire diabetic children to reach their full potential.
Served 172 children with type 1 diabetes and 70 volunteers in 2 summer camping opportunites in South Carolina in 2019. Attendance allowed these children to enjoy a summer camp in a medically safe environment while building their knowledge, comfort, and independence with diabetes management. Approximately 70% of campers received scholarships to attend. The school support program continued to provide diabetes education to school nurses through a partnership with Mid-Carolina AHEC . We maintained 2 web based diabetes specific educational sessions and provided an in-person educational session with school nurses in Lancaster County, South Carolina and McDuffie County, Georgia. We also co-hosted, with Mid-Carolina AHEC, the Second Annual Sweet Science Conference, which provides a total of 12 continuing educational hours to a total of 89 school nurses from Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
