Seeking to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity of York County brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.
In fiscal year 2019-2020, the organization continued its Neighborhood Revitalization approach incorporating a spectrum of housing solutions through our Homeownership and Home Repair Programs along with ongoing neighborhood engagement and homeowner services.Through the Homeownership Program, the affiliate completed _5_ new construction homes resulting in affordable homeownership with _6_ adults and _16_ children. Each home was constructed using energy efficient practices. Construction was in process on _2_ additional new construction homes by the end of the fiscal year with _2_ families (_2__adults and __2_children). New construction activities occurred in Rock Hill and York, SC.The affiliate serviced a total of 53 no-interest homeowner mortgages. The affiliate conducted homebuyer education and financial literacy classes with _6_ families representing (_6_ adults and _8_ children). The affiliate approved _9_ new homebuyers in process into the Homeownership Program with 155 attendees in homebuyer program information sessions. Through the Home Repair Program, the organization completed a total of 17 critical home repair projects serving primarily senior citizens and/or disabled homeowners. 7 critical home repair projects were in process at the end of the fiscal year. Home repair projects were completed in Clover/Lake Wylie, Fort Mill, Rock Hill, and York. Through our neighborhood engagement work, the organization partnered in: 4 community-based projects and 2 community planning initiatives with the Crawford Road neighborhood (Rock Hill); 1 community-based project in the Paradise neighborhood (Fort Mill); 1 community-based project in the Roosevelt neighborhood (Clover).
Through ReStore operations hundreds of tons of furniture, building materials and household goods are diverted from the local landfill while providing an affordable avenue for bargain shoppers to acquire good, usable items for household needs and home improvement projects. Through ReStore program services, Habitat homebuyers-in-process complete a portion of their program sweat equity hours by serving in one of our two ReStores in Rock Hill or Lake Wylie. In addition, the ReStore also contributes a valuable community service by providing the opportunity for workplace training and job skill development for adolescents and adults with special needs through partnerships with local school districts, Winthrop University and South Carolina Vocational Rehab. In addition, the ReStore utilizes individuals with community service requirements to assist in daily operations as well as individuals temporarily assigned by their companies to complete light duty service while recovering from workplace injuries.
