Organizations Filed Purposes: MISSION TO PROVIDE HOUSING AND SERVICES TO OVERCOME HOMELESSNESS AND ADDICTION VISION A COMMUNITY WHERE A PATHWAY TOWARD SELF-SUFFICIENCY EXISTS FOR WOMEN, CHILDREN AND FAMILIES VALUES DWC IS FAITHFUL TO OUR MISSION BY PROVIDING A CONTINUUM OF CARE FOR HOMELESS INDIVIDUALS AND HOMELESS WOMEN IN RECOVERY FROM ALCOHOL AND DRUG ADDICTION. WE ACCOMPLISH OUR PURPOSE THROUGH STRONG SUPPORT AND COLLABORATIONS WITH THOSE WHO SHARE OUR VISION. WE PROVIDE A SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT BASED ON INCLUSIVENESS AND UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. WE TREAT EVERY INDIVIDUAL WITH RESPECT AND DIGNITY. WE HAVE HIGH ETHICAL PRINCIPLES, CREATING AN ATMOSPHERE OF INTEGRITY AND TRUST. DOWNTOWN WOMEN'S CENTER PROVIDES HOUSING AND SUPPORTIVE SERVICES FOR WOMEN SEEKING ADDICTION RECOVERY AND THEIR CHILDREN. DWC HAS THREE ADDICTIONS RECOVERY SHELTERS, THREE RETAIL THRIFT STORES, AND OPERATES THE MERIDIAN APARTMENTS FOR LOW AND MODERATE INCOME MEN AND WOMEN, INCLUDING THE ELDERLY AND DISABLED. ABBA HOUSE WOMEN NEW IN RECOVERY WITHOUT CHILDREN BEGIN THE PROGRAM AT HAVEN HOUSE, A RECENTLY RECONSTRUCTED DORMITORY-STYLE HOME PROVIDING SAFETY AND SUPPORTIVE SERVICES FOR UP TO 20 WOMEN. THESE WOMEN MAY HAVE ADULT CHILDREN, NO CHILDREN, OR CHILDREN CURRENTLY IN FOSTER OR KINSHIP CARE. HAVEN'S SISTER FACILITY IS ABBA HOUSE, THE RECOVERY PROGRAM ENTRY POINT FOR PREGNANT WOMEN OR WOMEN WITH THEIR CHILDREN. ABBA PROVIDES 10 EFFICIENCY APARTMENTS WITH SHARED BATHROOMS AND A COMMUNITY LIVING ROOM. THE FIRST YEAR OF THE RECOVERY PROGRAM IS HIGHLY STRUCTURED. WOMEN ATTEND AND COMPLETE INTENSIVE OUTPATIENT TREATMENT AT AMARILLO RECOVERY FROM ALCOHOL AND DRUGS (ARAD) OPERATED BY CENIKOR. CASE MANAGERS ENSURE THE WOMEN ATTEND NIGHTLY AA/NA AND OTHER RECOVERY SUPPORT MEETINGS. THEY HELP WOMEN OBTAIN EMPLOYMENT, HEALTH CARE, CHILDCARE, AS NEEDED, AND IDS, DRIVER LICENSES, AND ATTEND TO LEGAL ISSUES WITH PROBATION OR PAROLE. CASE MANAGEMENT, COUNSELING, AND CLIENT SERVICES PROVIDE THE NECESSARY WRAP- AROUND SUPPORTS TO KEEP WOMEN ON THE PATH OF SOBRIETY TO PRODUCTIVITY. IN 2019, ABBA HOUSE SERVED 7 WOMEN AND 23 CHILDREN; HAVEN HOUSE SERVED 64 WOMEN. BOTH ARE SECURED FACILITIES AND ARE STAFFED 24/7.

GRATITUDE HOUSE OPENED IN 2016, GRATITUDE HOUSE IS LOCATED AT 11TH AND JACKSON STREETS IN DOWNTOWN AMARILLO, AND SERVES WOMEN IN THE SECOND PHASE OF THE DWC RECOVERY PROGRAM. GRATITUDE APARTMENTS ARE STAFFED 24/7. THE APARTMENT COMPLEX IS DIRECTLY ACROSS THE PARKING LOT FROM OPPORTUNITY SCHOOL (FOR YOUNGER CHILDREN) AND DOWN THE STREET FROM DWC'S THRIFT STORES, WHERE SOME DWC PROGRAM WOMEN WORK AND OTHERS VOLUNTEER TO PAY THE NOMINAL RENT. OPPORTUNITY SCHOOL DAY CARE IS LOCATED ON-SITE FOR CHILDREN NEWBORN TO THREE. ELWOOD PARK IS DIRECTLY ACROSS THE STREET PROVIDING A PLAYGROUND AND PARK TO RUN AND PLAY. SINGLE WOMEN IN RECOVERY AT GRATITUDE PAY RENT OF 150 PER MONTH FOR A ONE-BEDROOM APARTMENT FULLY FURNISHED, DECORATED, AND ALL UTILITIES PAID INCLUDING CABLE. MOMS WITH CHILDREN PAY 200 PER MONTH FOR A TWO-BEDROOM APARTMENT WITH ALL THE NECESSITIES FURNISHED INCLUDING UTILITIES. WOMEN IN THIS SECOND PHASE ARE EXPECTED TO WORK AND/OR ATTEND SCHOOL, CONTINUE ATTENDANCE AT AA/NA MEETINGS, ATTEND WEEKLY MANDATORY IN-HOUSE MEETINGS AND COUNSELING SESSIONS, AND PARTICIPATE IN CASE MANAGEMENT. DWC WOMEN LEARN BUDGETING, HOW TO IMPROVE PARENTING AND HOMEMAKING SKILLS; THEY WORK ON SELF-ESTEEM, AND OTHER EVERYDAY LIFE SKILLS. ATTENTION IS ALSO GIVEN TO DEEPENING THEIR SPIRITUAL BELIEFS AND PRACTICES, RESTORING FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS AND RETURNING TO A PRODUCTIVE DRUG-FREE LIFESTYLE BY SETTING EDUCATIONAL AND FINANCIAL GOALS. FOR FYE 2019, GRATITUDE HOUSE SERVED 30 WOMEN AND 33 CHILDREN.

HAVEN HOUSE HAVEN HOUSE IS THE ENTRY POINT FOR WOMEN WITHOUT CHILDREN, AS IT IS A DORMITORY-STYLE RESIDENCE. THE FIRST PHASE IS A RIGOROUSLY STRUCTURED PROGRAM WHICH FOCUSES TOTALLY ON BECOMING AND STAYING SOBER. REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE ATTENDING AND GRADUATING FROM ARAD (AMARILLO RECOVERY FROM ALCOHOL AND DRUGS) FOR DRUG AND ALCOHOL TREATMENT, ATTENDANCE AT AA/NA MEETINGS, FINDING PART-TIME EMPLOYMENT, GROUP AND ONE-ON-ONE COUNSELING, AS WELL AS GROUP MEETINGS WHERE WOMEN LEARN TO LIVE IN A GROUP SETTING, FOLLOW THE RULES OF THE HOUSE, AND CONSTANTLY WORK TOWARD RELAPSE PREVENTION. THESE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET BEFORE MOVING TO GRATITUDE HOUSE OR ABBA HOUSE. FOR FYE 2019, HAVEN HOUSE SERVED 64 WOMEN.
