The Organization is considered a national thought leader in animal welfare, in recognition of the uniquely successful lifesaving model it has pioneered in Austin, Texas. This model provides a comprehensive safety net for all shelter pets facing needless euthanasia. The Organization transfers in cats and dogs from other shelters that have no other option for leaving the shelter alive, treats them, and adopts them out. The Organization's practical, data-driven and sustainable model provides specialized programs and resources for saving the classes of at-risk, homeless cats and dogs that are typically killed in more traditional shelters, including neonates, elderly pets, those with critical illnesses and injuries, puppies with parvo, cats with ringworm and feline leukemia, unsocialized cats, and dogs with behavioral issues.
