Whole Child Health & Wellness. In 2019, CATCH Global Foundation continued this program's focus on low-income urban communities. Major projects included ongoing work in schools in Edinburg TX (funded by a grant from Valley Baptist Legacy Foundation) and Lansing MI (funded by a grant from Michigan Health Endowment Fund), launch of a project in Harford CT (funded by Aetna Foundation), and a self-funded projects in Chicago Public Schools. We also created powerpoint slides and audio clips on CATCH.org for all K-8 nutrition lessons to facilitate teaching. Finally, CATCH Global Foundation provided support, evaluation assistance and technical assistance to schools around the country who were expanding or sustaining the CATCH Whole Child Health program. In total CATCH's programs now reach approximately 2.8 million school-age children each year in over 13,500 schools and educational sites.
Out-of-School Physical Activity & Nutrition Education. In 2019, CATCH Global Foundation continued to bring the CATCH after-school programs to youth around the country including several train-the-trainer sessions with the American Diabetes Association in California and Texas and work with YMCAs in communities such as Wilkes Barre PA, Nashville TN, and Grant County IN. CATCH also expanded its early childhood programs through work with the Connecticut Department of Health, Arizona Department of Health Services, and UC CalFresh. We created a video series on leading physical activity for children with intellectual disabilities (funded by Special Olympics International), and provided support, evaluation assistance and technical assistance to out-of-school sites who were expanding or sustaining the CATCH Out-of-School programs.
Youth Nicotine Prevention. In 2019, CATCH Global Foundation continued the rapid expansion of the CATCH My Breath Youth E-Cigarette & JUUL Prevention Program serving youth ages 11-18. We were awarded a large grant from CVS Health Foundation to work with Discovery Education on updating and expanding curricular materials, and delivered a new version of the elementary school program including supplemental modules for use in STEM and humanities classrooms. We also launched Youth Service Learning Projects designed to enable high school students to take initiative in advocating for youth vaping prevention. Finally, a key paper demonstrating positive outcomes in reducing vaping initiation was accepted for publication in Public Health Reports, making CATCH My Breath the first and only evidence-based youth vaping prevention program. We reached approximately 600,000 students during the year.
