Front Steps is responsible for managing the Austin Resource for the Homeless located in downtown Austin, which serves as a central point of intake and assessment for homeless persons. Front Steps also assists its clients with recuperative medical assistance and traditional housing.
Front Steps administers the Austin Resource Center for the Homeless (Arch) under a contract with the City of Austin. The Arch houses a day resource center with a clinic, and a number of co-located agencies offering employment assistance, mental health help, and other related services to assist the homeless population in Austin. It also operates a night shelter in the building which sleeps up to 190 clients. Its kitchen will feed around 190 hot meals each evening and a continental style breakfast each morning.
Front Steps' recuperative care program helps our clients who need a place to recuperate from hospital stays. Rather than releasing them to the street, the hospitals can release them to our program. We provide a nursing home environment where there is care and social workers who can help clients overcome substance abuse issues while healing from medical issues. After nursing home care is complete, we often offer temporary or permanent housing to help keep them off the streets.
Housing - Front Steps provides transitional and permanent housing to assist our clients from homelessness to safe, affordable housing. We also provide various types of support to clients in the housing program such as money management training, housekeeping skills, and how to live within a community setting.
