TO ENGAGE CHILDREN IN VOLUNTEERISM AND EMPOWER THEM TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THEIR COMMUNITIES
TO ENGAGE CHILDREN IN VOLUNTEERISM AND EMPOWER THEM TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THEIR COMMUNITIES, CREATING GENERATIONS OF YOUTH WHO DEVELOP INTO COMMUNITY-MINDED LEADERS THROUGH FAMILY VOLUNTEERING, SERVICE LEARNING, AND YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS.
FAMILY VOLUNTEERING: MORE THAN 7,200 YOUTH AND 3,400 FAMILIES PARTICIPATED IN GENERATION SERVE'S VOLUNTEERING ACTIVITIES IN 2018. OUR FAMILY VOLUNTEERING PROGRAM HAS A POSITIVE IMPACT ON YOUTH, FAMILIES, AND OUR 100 NONPROFIT PARTNERS. PARENTS REPORT THAT THEIR CHILDREN GAIN A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF COMMUNITY NEEDS AND HAVE AN INCREASED DESIRE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE COMMUNITY. PARENTS AND CHILDREN ENGAGE IN MEANINGFUL CONVERSATIONS ABOUT THEIR SERVICE EXPERIENCES. 64% OF OUR VOLUNTEER FAMILIES CONTINUE TO SUPPORT OUR NONPROFIT PARTNERS WITH TIME AND/OR FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTIONS AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN INTRODUCED TO THOSE ORGANIZATIONS THROUGH GENERATION SERVE.
SERVICE LEARNING: COMMITTED 3RD - 5TH GRADERS PARTICIPATE IN OUR SERVICE LEARNING PROGRAM TO DIVE DEEPER INTO A PARTICULAR SERVICE AREA, SUCH AS ENVIRONMENTALISM, ANIMAL WELFARE, OR PEOPLE IN NEED. THESE YOUTH LEARN ABOUT THE COMMUNITY NEED ALONGSIDE PEERS, BRAINSTORM SOLUTIONS TOGETHER, AND VOLUNTEER TOGETHER WITH THEIR FAMILIES IN THAT SERVICE AREA. THIS PROGRAM ALLOWS THESE YOUTH TO DEVELOP A HABIT OF VOLUNTEERING, EXPERIENCE A CHANGE IN PERSPECTIVE, AND FIND THEIR PASSIONS.
TEEN LEADERSHIP: MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS SELECTED FOR THIS PROGRAM COMPLETE TRAINING DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS TO BECOME LEADERS IN OUR ORGANIZATION AND IN OUR COMMUNITY. THEY LEARN ABOUT NONPROFIT MANAGEMENT, PUBLIC SPEAKING, CPR, AND LEADERSHIP, SO THEY CAN USE THOSE SKILLS TO LEAD VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES FOR OUR ORGANIZATION OR FOR OTHER SOCIAL IMPACT GROUPS. AFTER PARTICIPATING IN THIS PROGRAM, GENERATION SERVE TEEN LEADERS FEEL EMPOWERED AND ARE PREPARED TO TAKE ON LEADERSHIP ROLES IN THE COMMUNITY. 44 TEEN LEADS AND CO-LEADS HAVE CONTINUED TO LEAD OUR FAMILY VOLUNTEERING ACTIVITIES AFTER GRADUATING FROM OUR LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS.
