Organizations Filed Purposes: THE HILL COUNTRY ALLIANCE IS A COLLABORATION OF PEOPLE AND ORGANIZATIONS WHOSE PURPOSE IS TO PROVIDE EDUCATION AND OUTREACH ABOUT THE NEED TO PROTECT THE NATURAL RESOURCES

COMMUNITY PROGRAM. HCA'S COMMUNITY PROGRAM FOCUSES ON SUPPORTING THE CITIES, COUNTIES, AND LOCALLY ORGANIZED VOLUNTEER GROUPS OF THE HILL COUNTRY AS WE BUILD THE CAPACITY OF THOSE PARTNERS TO ENVISION AND BUILD A RESILIENT FUTURE FOR THEIR COMMUNITIES. HCA LED COMMUNITY GROUPS FROM AROUND THE REGION IN JOINING FORCES TO RAISE AWARENESS OF THE ISSUE OF AGGREGATE MINING IN THE HILL COUNTRY AS WE LAUNCHED TEXANS FOR RESPONSIBLE AGGREGATE MINING (TRAM). WE CONTINUE TO SUPPORT THE COMAL COUNTY CONSERVATION ALLIANCE IN RAISING AWARENESS FOR THE NEED FOR LAND CONSERVATION IN COMAL COUNTY. WE ALSO WORK TO BRING COMMUNITY LEADERS TOGETHER FOR SHARED LEARNING ABOUT FUNDING FOR CONSERVATION, POLICY TOOLS, AND TO CREATE A SHARED NARRATIVE AROUND THE GROWTH OUR REGION IS SEEING.

LAND PROGRAM. IN 2020 WE BUILT ON OUR SUPPORT FOR THE LAND TRUST COMMUNITY AND WATERSHED-BASED CONSERVATION AND EDUCATION INITIATIVES. WE PARTNERED WITH TPWD TO CONTINUE OUR INVASIVE SPECIES CONTROL EFFORT IN FREDERICKSBURG AND THE PEDERNALES BASIN. WE CONVENED RIPARIAN GATHERINGS, CREATED HANDS-ON LEARNING EXPERIENCES, AND ENGAGED MORE THAN 900 LANDOWNERS THROUGH OUR OUTREACH EFFORTS. WE PROVIDE CRITICAL SUPPRT TO THE HEADWATERS ALLIANCE, A GROUP OF LANDOWNERS INTERESTED IN PROTECTING THE SPRINGFLOW THAT SUSTAINS OUR HILL COUNTRY RIVERS. HCA ACTIVELY SEEKS TO BUILD AND SUPPORT PLACE-BASED CONSERVATION INITIATIVES ACROSS THE REGION. WATER PROGRAM. WATER CONTINUES TO BE CENTRAL TO ALL WE DO, AND IN 2020 THE HILL COUNTRY HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO BENEFIT FROM NEW FUNDING SOURCES TO SUPPORT FLOOD MITIGATION PROJECTS. HCA FORMALLY JOINED THE TEXAS LIVING WATERS PROJECT IN 2020, AND IMMEDIATELY SET TO WORK RAISING AWARENESS OF THE NEED FOR NATURE-BASED SOLUTIONS TO FLOODING. WE WORKED WITH THE CITY OF BANDERA TO APPLY FOR THE STATEWIDE FLOOD INFRASTRUCTURE FUND, AND WERE INSTRUMENTAL IN GARNERING $8 MILLION IN LOW INTEREST LOANS AND GRANT FUNDING FOR THAT COMMUNITY. NIGHT SKIES PROGRAM. THE HILL COUNTRY IS ROUTINELY RECOGNIZED BY THE INTERNATIONAL DARK SKY ASSOCIATION AS HAVING MORE ACTIVITY TO PROTECT THE NIGHT SKIES THAN ANY OTHER SIMILARLY SIZED REGION IN THE WORLD. HCA IS WORKING TO LAUNCH "FRIENDS OF THE NIGHT SKY" GROUPS IN ALL 17 COUNTIES OF THE HILL COUNTRY. WE CHAMPIONED A POLICY CHANGE THAT WILL OPEN NEW FUNDING STREAMS FOR OUTDOOR LIGHTING RETROFITS.

IN 2019 HCA FORMALLY ASSUMED THE ROLL OF BACKBONE ORGANIZATION FOR THE TEXAS HILL COUNTRY CONSERVATION NETWORK, FURTHERING OUR COLLABORATIVE IMPACT APPROACH TO CONSERVATION OF THE LAND, WATER, COMMUNITIES, AND NATURAL RESOURCES OF THE HILL COUNTRY. IN 2020, HCA AND THE NETWORK LEVERAGED NEW PHILANTHROPIC GIVING TO PULL DOWN $1.2 MILLION IN FUNDING FROM THE WATER FUNDER INITIATIVE. HCA AND OUR MORE THAN 75 NETWORK PARTNERS HAVE DRAMATICALLY SCALED OUR IMPACT ACROSS THE REGION.
