THE MISSION OF ZILKER BOTANICAL GARDEN CONSERVANCY IS TO SUPPORT AND IMPROVE ZILKER BOTANICAL GARDEN THROUGH EDUCATION, CONSERVATION, IMPROVEMENT AND ULTIMATELY THROUGH A TRANSITION OF MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES FOR A PHASED-IN TRANSFER OF MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE GARDEN.
ZILKER BOTANICAL GARDEN CONSERVANCY ENGAGES IN FUNDRAISING FOR ZILKER BOTANICAL GARDEN AND SPONSORS PROGRAMMING FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN VISITING THE GARDEN INCLUDING A CURRICULUM AND VOLUNTEERS TO LEAD THE PROGRAM. IN 2019 THE CONSERVANCY AGREED WITH A REQUEST BY THE CITY OF AUSTIN TO TAKE OVER THE MANAGEMENT OF THE GIFT SHOP IN THE GARDEN WHICH WAS PREVIOUSLY RUN BY AAGC. ADDITIONALLY THE CONSERVANCY RAISES MONEY TO FUND A MASTER PLAN FOR THE GARDEN AND ASSISTS WITH VARIOIUS SPECIAL PROJECTS TO ENHANCE THE GARDEN INCLUDING HOSTING VARIOUS CLUBS WHICH MEET AT THE GARDEN THROUGH THE AUSTIN AREA GARDEN COUNCIL.
GATE - EVERY YEAR MORE THAN 130,000 VISITORS FLOCK TO THE ZILKER PARK BOTANICAL GARDEN TO ADMIRE THE FLOWERS AND LEARN ABOUT PLANTS, TO MAKE FAIRY GARDENS, TO POSE FOR COMMENCEMENT PHOTOS, MAYBE EVEN GET MARRIED. SOME COME SIMPLY TO STROLL THE MANY PATHS, FINDING THE CALM WE ALL NEED IN OUR LIVES. THE CONSERVANCY GREETS THESE VISITORS AND PROVIDE INFORMATION ABOUT THE GARDEN. THE GARDEN PARTICIPATES IN THE MUSEUMS FOR ALL PROGRAM, TO ENCOURAGE PEOPLE OF ALL BACKGROUNDS TO VISIT THE GARDEN.
GIFT SHOP - THE GIFT SHOP PROVIDES MERCHANDISE WHICH SUPPORTS THE VISITOR'S EXPERIENCE WHEN VISITING THE GARDEN. VARIOUS CHILDREN'S MERCHANDISE SUPPORTS THE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING AND AS SPECIAL PROGRAMS OCCUR ADDITIONAL SPECIALTY MERCHANDISE IS ORDERED TO ENHANCE THE EXPERIENCE. MERCHANDISE IS FOCUSED ON NATURE, SUSTAINABILITY, GARDENING AND CHILDREN'S THEMED ITEMS. BRANDED ITEMS SUCH AS WATER BOTTLES, T-SHIRTS, HATS AND BANDANAS WITH THE ZBG NAME ON THEM ARE ALSO AVAILABLE FOR SALE TO ASSIST MARKETING AND ADVERTISING EFFORTS FOR THE GARDEN.
EDUCATION - VOLUNTEER DOCENTS PROVIDE A CURRICULUM TO SCHOOL AGE CHILDREN FROM A WIDE RANGE OF SCHOOLS FROM AUSTIN AND THE SURROUNDING AREAS TO BRING LARGE NUMBERS OF CHILDREN DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR FOR VISITS AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING MANAGED BY THE CONSERVANCY'S PART-TIME EDUCATION COORDINATOR. EXPANDING THE YOUTH PROGRAMMING IS ON THE HORIZON.
